No I'm pretty sure people get mad at the people who pay in too much and then get a refund as well. That means they aren't being smart about their money and giving it to good ole Sam for free or something like that.
Either way...I get that people who work hard and make the big bucks think they are the ones who should be getting the money...maybe even plus some. But that isn't how those people on The Hill see or made it.
If you want to get 10k back I guess start popping out some babies and get a job that pays nothing. It's such a wonderful life ya know. Just get use to using food stamps and having people not be happy bout that. I think you will have to shop at Goodwill for clothes and such but even that might be a sin. I also think you have to get a really big vehicle that sucks gas...but it's required. Oh and eat nothing but seafood and steak. Get some ugly designer purse, it can be a knock I guess but the real deal is better. Did a leave out anything?

I must spend too much time on WIR - they don't seem to be too hard on people who get a refund due to overpaying. Besides, with the last minute changes to the tax code from our friends in DC, who knows if their withholding is right anyhow?

Our AGI this year was in the 13K-14K range due to my income for doing my husband's dialysis at home. (I get paid via the In-Home Support Services program for people on Medicaid in our state.) In addition to the 10K or so from that, I also had income from my freelance writing, etc...
Husband gets SSDI as well, but SSDI is not counted as income because my "earned income" was so low, so that 22K or so is not counted in our AGI because it is not taxed.
Our "refund" this year is about 6K. Since we pay no income taxes, this number is from the EITC and Child Tax Credit. (We have 2 children, one who was 18 this year and did not count for the Child Tax Credit.)
I personally think they should get rid of these huge credits, or at least start counting SSDI as income to keep the "loopholes" like the one we fall into from happening, because that "refund" is like a small windfall to us each year. We typically use it to fix things on our home that are broken, etc... and for all of those projects we can't typically afford on our relatively low income.
In our situation, and I know we can't be alone in this, we get income from the government, which then counts as income, and get a huge tax credit for it. It's a bit ridiculous, but what's a poor person to do - not claim the credit?

Arch! 'I clients' ? Have you been drinking piss water again??? And newbie with long name... No I am not saying poor people should not claim. They very much should. It is just why so much gets me - not that they claim. If someone willing to give - take it but if I suspect it is taken from me I am generally pissed of. Unless I have a good explanation on 'how deserving poor people are'...

There are thousands of people in our situation who can claim the credits. I think they are going to be on the way out though because those who pay taxes are starting to really understand better just what EITC and Child Tax Credits mean to a lot of people. They ultimately mean that you pay in and we take out...

I have projects I cannot afford too. It sucks.
I wish those people that got huge refunds would at least act poorer than me. But NOOO - - They go on vacations and have smart phones and a million cable channels.

LOL. I remember I was pregnant and used free clinic. We are talking 16 years ago. There where always 'poors' who talked their heads on a cell phone. Case workers where pissed OFF! They could not afford one! One told me that there is always an excuse like 'my rich uncle gifted it to me' and this is end of it. No one can question another about their finances. But I think they should be able to IF said person is using FREE services for poor.

tloonya- how was this couple getting by on $13K per year? Even in a LCOL are you'd have to live off credit cards for groceries on an income that low. Was the husband working off the books? Were they getting handouts form other government programs such as food stamps and highly subsidized rent? Inquiring minds want to know.

They've got $500 foodstamps. WIC program. Insurance. $13K is about $1K per month. So rent is $600. Food and WIC takes care of food needs. Husband makes some $125 per week not every week though. So they are getting by just fine.

If we really want to change how EIC, etc. is implemented and stop encouraging children on welfare we need to change the laws. We need to start writing our representatives to change the laws and give suggestions.
Continue to vote in and vote out different parties is going to give us more of the same. Those EIC rules and how many kids it can pay for have been around for probably decades.
I'm not a fan of it either and partially because as a single person there are very few programs for singles and it seems bad policy to encourage people to take advantage of having more and more children to fund their lifestyle on my dime and others.

Where is this at? I bought a package of 2 digital Clear Blues at Walgreens for $7. I've never seen a pregnancy test that costs $20, that must be some pregnancy test!

Are they sold in packs of two tests, mebbe? So you have a backup in case you really, really don't believe the results of the first test?

For $20 I could have gotten a package of 8 Clear Blues. I suppose it is cheaper to buy that many per pack instead of one at a time.

If I go to the doctor's office then a test would cost $20. Which around here, even when you call and say hey I'm pregnant! They still MAKE you take their test, which is the same thing you would buy at a store, and charge you $20.
I don't know, maybe some people feel like only ones that cost a lot of money are gonna be true.
