Ok, fess up, what have you done that just made you shake your head, laugh, change the game plan, turn a meal into something else, or go out to dinner? I made Beck's Borscht the other night, grabbing all the ingredients before I left for work (on nights right now, staying busy, but there is now a stove in my shop, so I can cook/bake while I work ). Went to put in the can of tomatoes and realized I'd grabbed the italian style ones. Oops. The borscht still came out excellent (coming from someone who does not care for beets, or cabbage), just ended up a Russian soup with Italian flair, lol. Another time I was making Nancy's Sinful Chocolate Cake and figured I'd boil the water in the microwave. I ended up not getting to it right away, so, without checking it, I turned it on for a couple more minutes. The steam made so much pressure that it blew the door open, water went everywhere. The microwave still works great though ;D

I don't know that it is a misadventure but one time I used a recipe for Gingerbread that is over 80 years old. It said you could bake it in muffin tins. So, I did. The stuff rose up into perfectly shaped muffins but were super tall. They looked like muffins on steroids. I offered one to a neighbor kid, and she declined. Her eyes got huge when she saw it. hahaha Oh, the only misadventure I can think of is a burn I received while making candy. It was bad. I was making taffy with an old timey syrup. It must have had some water in it. The syrup popped, and I got a third degree burn on my arm. Can you say ow?

I put a single shake of the nutmeg shaker into any bechamel sauce I make. well, nutmeg comes in a small bottle like thyme, rosemary, and cumin - the last of which is a similar color and also ground. I've had to start over on a bechamel a few times after realizing a little too late that I'd grabbed cumin out of the stacks instead of nutmeg. thankfully I always noticed before I dumped in the cheese.

I was baking chicken breasts and didn't have any bread crumbs, so I used Cheez-its, total disaster, the boys still have a good laugh teasing me about "dad's cheez-it chicken"

Hehehe. I would have thought it might taste good. Thank you for the warning. I am more likely to make a cooking mistake when people start bugging me. You can come into the kitchen but stay out of my way, and don't bug me. If I ask you to not lift a lid on a pot, don't do it. I'll tell you what is in the pot just don't lift the lid. I don't think I'll ever forget the time they bugged me while I was making cookies. I accidently added the salt twice. I started to throw a tantrum, and toss it all out. Instead, I doubled the recipe, and made 12 dozen huge cookies. I didn't bake again for 6 months.

Lol, the muffins sound good I went to use bread crumbs today, but realized they were a little out dated (the store they are from has been closed here for a few years...) So, quickly threw some bread slices in the oven--it works great, we'll just eat later than planned.

They were good. They were light, fluffy, and delicious. Ooooo Years ago, my mother called, and begged if I'd stay with my grown sister while my parents went out of town. I was so exhausted. I'd had a long hard week at work. Well, the recipe on the bag of lima beans said they could be microwaved (they don't say that now). Those things were like rocks. Strangely enough, my sister ate almost all of them.

OMG, I am so dangerous in the kitchen that a friend gave me a fire extinguisher for Christmas one year. I'm not sure there are enough characters in the reply box for me to relate all my mishaps...
