I got a message earlier today when I tried to login that it was an invalid user name. It appears to be working now.

Did the Board just go wonky on you, with all the deletes wvugurl ? There seems to be double posting happening every now and again.

Angel was another one, but her account came back. So what happened to SL, mmhmm. POM and Laterbloomer. Mmhmm and Later are on Support. SL is on V5. SL made it to Support as well. There are some guests still not accounted for.

Sugi, some re-registered but i took no actions on them until late yesterday afternoon. and then, based on what Martyn said here, i denied them.
"Only accounts that were lost will be restored. If accounts were made in the username of lost accounts, then when the restore tries to fill the gap, it wont do it as it wont see that theres a gap"
I had heard from someone that even *i* was a guest at one point, so somehow as the server came up, the majority of the accounts affected went back to the way they should be.. the rest are the ones that are still guests.

Thank you Moon so much. I think cause when the first bear issues came up I just deleted my browser and right then my BIL wanted me to fix something so I just left my computer for a good hour or more. Then I came back and all hell had broken out. So it's just a waiting game. Have a wonderful day.

They didn't show as going through but when I switched to wifi they were all there. I guess based on what moon posted, I tried to login yesterday during the crash.

I was in the No-Insurance thread started by theCaptain earlier today and noticed a lot of people listed as "guests" I know one was WIBeth, don't recall the rest. Anyways I wanted to comment and tried to log in. I had a lot of trouble logging in from work and my smart phone. Finally I got in. I stay logged in at work 24/7 (except for my weekly reboots) and while I did have some "angry bear/server" messages yesterday I didn't have to log back in. And my account seems fine to me.

I will mention that whenever the restore does get done, there may very likely be some loss of threads/posts. That's because the restore will roll back the forum data to the date/time of the most recent backup prior to the crash. I'm not sure exactly when that was.
Just want to make everyone aware of that fact.

redkitty is showing as a guest on Atlast Milestone thread. IF we're still trying to figure out who the 19 are.

I am going to get one of those new fangled IPad thingies Moon, would we get the same sort of trouble on them. Taking advise from the family, don't know if it is good or bad, only time will tell. My laptop is getting a bit old and delapidated, but they do say, all good things come to an end sometime.

This particular mess wouldn't have been avoided by using an IPad, jack. This was a server problem, unfortunately. ProBoards did the best they could to clean it up. It just took some time.

Yep behind cloud computing is actual hardware that serves it. I'm glad to see mmhmm and others back. Does anyone know if content was lost on any threads or whether the restore only affected the user database?

Thank you for the quick response to my question, mmhmm, they do say a little knowledge is dangerouse, but no knowledge at all is even worse.

LOL, jack. When it's a server problem, it's on ProBoards' side, not the posters'. They had a server crash that gobbled up a few of our poster accounts. Hope you enjoy your new IPad. I know several people who have them and enjoy them.

As you may have suspected, this operation was finished a bit before 9am Pacific time!
Sorry about the delay on this, a bad combinations of timings happened yesterday which caused this to be pushed back. Since im sure some are curious, ill give a quick explanation.
An overarching factor, is that I am currently moving from city to city. This of course wouldn't usually be an issue, since I still have to do my job. The plan yesterday was to pop to my old place just after work, finalize move out cleaning, then come back to the office on the way to the new place. By that point to restore operation would be ready for the member restores.
As you may have noticed yesterday afternoon however, this forum went down again. Problem was, it wasnt just this forum, it was EVERY forum. That in its own right occurred as a result of a series of very unfortunate circumstances in their own right. This meant I had to rush back to the office and get that all sorted, which even after forums were up, I still had plenty of cleanup operations as a result. Unfortunately things service wide like that take priority.
I figure that I will just do your restores from my new place. Nope! Clearly I was crazy to expect my internet to actually be working when it was setup earlier that day >_<
I did however come to work early this morning, to make sure I got you sorted long before the typical 9am open time. Unfortunately I get here to servers blipping on and off. We have enough redundancy for it to not have affected users, but its another one of those things that had to be worked on ASAP.
I did still get you done before 9am, but nowhere near as far before it as I had hoped.
But yes, thats about it. I personally like transparency with companies I deal with, so thought i'd throw some here!
As a final note, if you see any more missing members, feel free to post in this thread or the support thread, I will keep an eye out. It will take me less than 20 seconds per member that needs restoring now the data state from just before the crash is ready.
Sorry again about the issues!

Sounds like you had several plates-full, Martyn. As I said on the ProBoards Support board, we really appreciate your effort on our behalf. Considering what you were faced with, you deserve a hug! Thanks, again!

All part of a days work! Not an issue I can assure you The amazing thing is (to me at least), that when the entire server crashed, it was only your forum, and only your members list which experienced any loss. Of course that probably brings no comfort to you since you were affected, but I think it should give you hope that the odds of anything like this happening to you again are astronomical.
