Hello ~ the rescue's Open House is over and my sanity is coming back! I'm back to eating my veggies, too. Had my blood test on April 30, now doc appt is this Thursday, April 10. I've lost about 50 lbs since my last doc appt in January, so I'm hoping for reasonable results.

Summer is here. Highs from 88-96 in the 10-day forecast. Woooo HOOO! (not)

Groceries tomorrow from Walmart.

Dinner: collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, broccoli, cabbage, yellow pepper, radish, tomatoes, carrots, baby potatoes, sirloin, and one piece of toast.

Thursday at 9am.

If I had a time machine, I would go back in time and buy property along the central coast.

LUNCH: chopped salad with chicken and egg whites (9 veggies), cooked broccoli, spinach, kale and chard. And a small pink lady apple. 13 veggies and 1 fruit.

Doc appt went fine. My blood sugars are in the controlled range (A1c 5.8) and my high blood pressure is improving. He seemed happy about the scale, too. And I don't have to go back for 6 months!

One kitty adopted today at Petco ~ yay!

We had a BBQ for Mother's day and I am overly tired, overly heated, overly companied out and ready for a nap.  Oreo had a wonderful time playing in the backyard.  She almost caught a bird.   The bird sat up in the tree and told us in no uncertain terms what it thought of Oreo for probably half an hour.  When Oreo was living on the street she was apparently very well known for her bird catching ability, apparently she was seeing if she still had it.

Oreo had her annual checkup and shots today.  She passed.  He liked her weight, her teeth etc.  The only slight issue was cataracts developing.  The vet clinic has a new clinic cat and he is a black and white tuxedo kitty also.  He was busy sniffing Oreo's carrier, surprisingly she didn't hiss or growl.  The staff said he feels that it is his duty as clinic cat to be in everyone's business and to check each and everyone out.

I think it is a matter of how fast the cataracts progress vs how long she lives.  She is approx 11 years old now.  Since she was a stray we don't know exactly how old she is but she did seem to have some care earlier in her life since she is spayed.  The vet said it is something that they will monitor.

It's the first day of summer ... and we're going to be 106 for the next three days. Yikes.

I'm fostering 3 kittens right now for The Cat House on the Kings (littermates) .... longhaired calico, longhaired buff/orange and a chocolate point siamese. Their names are Cheddar, Parmesan and Brie. They are 7 weeks old. (And adorable)

We've got a big online fundraiser coming up that lasts 2 weeks. It never ends.

All is well here ... just summer hot.

We are also hot, not as hot as ❤ mollymouser ❤ but we are hitting upper 90's.  It will be this way for the foreseeable future.  I made zucchini casserole tonight and it tastes good.

Oreo is not happy with me.  She is having her annual eye issues so is back on eye drops for a while.  This is not her favorite thing.  It also tends to go hand in hand with another not so favorite thing, picking out the eye boogers.

At least the vet no longer makes us come in.  This has happened so often that they just fill the prescription.

Very smoky skies AGAIN today with today's high in the low 90's.  Cooler weather with clearing skies is forecasted for later this week.  One can only hope....

I am just hoping that the wind shifts to off shore instead from the FRV. The only possible OK thing about this is that the temps are lower by a good 5+ degrees so it's not a 90+ degree day.

Really hoping the weather clears up some and the "possibility" of rain does happen this weekend.

It's a beautiful autumn day and no rain forecasted until the weekend.  Temps in the sixties.  I love this time of year.

Updates ... updates .... where to start?

ME: Still fostering kittens. The two I have now have ringworm, which means that 3 of my adult cats have ringworm. Hey, we put the fun in fungal, right? Once they get over it they can be spayed/neutered (there's a girl and boy) and then listed on The Cat House on the Kings website for adoption. Think I'm going to go with Brienne and Berric for names (if you watch Game of Thrones, you'll know where those names came from.)

Our 10-day weather forecast here in sunny central California ranges from 80-86. I am still in the pool on sunny afternoons because (a) I'm completely nuts and (2) I have a lot of built-in insulation. It has been cooling down at night, which is delightful. We got a few days of light rain last week ~ our first rain since Spring.

My wonderful DH was busy all summer and through September flying (mostly in support of wildfires), but this month is calmer. He spent a week in Portland for training and head off to Tucson on Sunday for meetings. I know he's going two different places in November (Texas and somewhere) ~ his schedule changes so much it's impossible to say for sure.  Do you know what November 5 is? His 35th anniversary of joining the military. Proud wife that I am, I got him a placque to commemorate the occasion.  Not sure when he's getting out ... right now he has orders through Dec 31 and I know he wants to stay through May 2020 (or longer) if they will let him. We'll see.

My big focus right now is Cat House fundraising ... we've got our big Open House on November 3. We're selling calendars. We're trying to help secure funding for an animal rights theme noir-style film that the proceeds will benefit CHOTK (in part.) Details on our website for those interested.

My wonderful DH bought me an Ipad Mini so now I can take great foster kitten photos and send them to my computer pretty easily ... yay.

Did I mention I adopted a CHOTK orange-and-white striped kitten named Pepper? He's a total lovebug and plays a lot with Cheeto. Pepper turned 6 months old today!

Watching the Weather Channel and all the aftermath/hurricane devastation videos is just so very sad and sobering. I am glad people heeded warnings (for the most part) and got out.
