I don't think i have ever had an earache in my entire life, until today! This afternoon i just started having intermittent stabbing pains in my right ear and it feels tender along the front of the ear. Ouch. What should i do?

Take your finger out of your ear.

Ouch! Earaches suck. You could:
1. Use a hair dryer on a warm setting and blow it on or next to your ear. The heat helps lessen the pain.
2. Put some (uncooked) rice in a sock, tie the sock off and put it in the microwave for about a minute until it heats up (but isn't HOT). Hold the sock against your ear or lie down on it.
3. Lay against a heating pad on a warm setting.
4. Put drops of (barely) warm mineral oil in your ear. BE VERY CAREFUL OF THIS, THOUGH. The oil will be much warmer inside your ear than it feels to your finger. It certainly won't help anything if you scald your eardrum.
5. Go to the pharmacy and get Earache Relief Drops (I think that's the name of it, but could be wrong). It's a mineral oil that contains chamomille, among other things, to soothe and relieve the earache.
If the earache does not improve in a day or two, you might want to go to the doctor to see if you have an ear infection. Most ear infections in adults clear up on their own (if it's viral), but sometimes you need an antibiotic (if it's bacterial).
Good luck, Shooby.

I hope it's not an alien in there, shoobs. I saw this movie once....
Seriously, tho? I've had two ear infections in the last year after never having one in my entire life (that I remember). Evidently, it has something to do with my sinus. Are you running a fever? If so, you should make a doctor's appointment. An untreated ear infection can cause scar tissue that can affect your hearing.

I hope it's not an alien in there, shoobs. I saw this movie once.... That is just silly. Aliens are not real. Most likely a cockroach crawled in there while you were sleeping and laid eggs in your ear, which are now growing which is causing the pressure and discomfort.

Thanks, b! My kids have gotten plenty of ear infections and earaches, and they usually have a habit of cropping up in the middle of the night. Grrrrr! It's good to know some handy tips and home remedies for when you can't run out to the doctor until the morning. A howling child does NOT make for a good night's sleep!

I actually did find some ear medicine in my cabinet. It is pyrine/benzocaine or something like that. A topical anesthetic basically not an antibiotic or anything. So, i did use that and it helped.

I take a decongestant at the first tingle and that takes care of it. Mine are mild and allergy related.
