Actually if they found out someone cheated on the exams to get the degree they would strip it. He got the honorary one for his accomplishments in racing. Since he has no accomplishments, no degree.

I don't care. It is all a bunch of hooey. This "after the fact" stripping of records and titles is completely absurd. You can't rewrite history. It is what it is. He raced, he won. They had YEARS to test him and boot him out but they choose to ride his financial coattails. I will not support the sport of Cycling at all.

If Lance was doing it so were a lot of them. If they didn't catch him, they didn't catch them. I doubt they were really trying that hard too. And, i am sure that in his races he beat a lot of others who were doing like wise. SO WHAT!

So he cheated! Whether or not others cheated too does not change the fact that he cheated. I wish we could deal out repurcussions to all cheaters but that doesn't mean we shouldn't where we can.

An honourary degree is conferred upon those who have made outstanding achievements in a certain field. Cheating is not an achievement, nor is it honourable. They did the right thing.

I think that's the key, really. They granted him an honorary degree and found he had dishonored it. They probably did what they felt they had to do to retain the integrity of further honorary degrees they might grant.

It's not the least bit absurd.
Look how many Olympians have been stripped of their medals. The degree was not earned - it was honorary. He tarnished that honor and it was revoked - which was done at the discretion of the institute which presented it to him.
There very well may have been other racers who were doping - but he was the one whose tests proved positive and he was caught - and it is he who has to deal with the consequences of his actions.
