I've made about $1000 in the past month by selling stuff I had around the house. That's after shipping, Paypal, and Ebay fees. Not too bad. It adds up quick. I never thought I would have ended up selling the stuff for that much!
I made some money for stuff I don't want/need/use anymore and now I have a little less clutter (not that I had much stuff to begin with) and it's less to move and take with me.

Thats great. I have been debating paring our house down and increasing our savings accounts as well.

I have made nearly $700 in the past week selling crap I don't need anymore on ebay. I charge enough for shipping for cover my costs and the ebay/paypal fee. Been selling my son's legos, purses I don't use, books, a vacuum, mirrors, art, etc. Just crap that had been cluttering up my closets and drawers.
It's been worth the time and the effort in my opinion.

when we moved this past summer from Boston to North Carolina we decided there were quite a few things we didn't need - the obvious being winter tools - but as we were in the middle of staging our house and getting rid of things we decided to put things up on craigslist.
These things ranged from baby stuff (strollers, etc) to those things that are in your basement that you last looked at 10 years ago and thought you would want, and then realize you haven't looked at it in 10 years.
All in all, we sold $3,800 worth of households.
After going through this my wife and I vowed that once a year we would go through everything and get rid of those "yeah I'll need this someday" things when really we know we don't.

I could sell lots of things in our house, I am just not sure my kids and husband would still be talking to me.

What kind of things have you sold? Some of this stuff isn't probably going to mean anything to you but... Pillar and gauges $90 Shifter $30 Worklight $20 Motorcycle Jacket $75 Hats $15 Snow shovel $5 TV Stand $160 Hose $35 Mattress $100 Rugs $100 Ebay Original XBOX Wireless controllers $52 Wireless mouse $13 TI-83 calculator $50 Trimmer $36 Battery and Charger $88 Original Xbox and accessories $90 Nitrous Express Remote Bottle Opener $150 This is a list that I made up while I was selling this stuff to keep track of. The first group is the list I sold from a car forum I frequent, the second group is a list of parts the buyer of my house bought from me, the third group is a friend of mine, and the last part, obviously, parts sold on Ebay.

That is great! I have a bunch of stuff that I could sell, but I usually just give it away to charity because I'm too lazy to sell it, lol. Off topic, SVT I think you are a fellow Ravens fan so I'm going to exalt you for that.

You really haven't been making "extra" money. You are selling stuff that you paid much, much more for in order to recoup some of the original cost.
That's not a quibble, but just a reminder that we all buy too much stuff. Your "success" should actually remind you of how much money you have wasted and make you think twice about buying stuff.

Well I definitely realize that. All that stuff listed are things that I got my use out of and no longer wanted/needed. Selling this stuff like I did is better than just keeping it around or throwing it away. I bought that stuff at one time for a reason, so it's not a complete waste. But yeah, you have a valid point but I already thought of that

Didn't someone on another thread say we should plan to buy/use/dispose of certain items? So if you have done that and then manage to make money on the end I think that counts as being ahead?? I am lazy I usually just give the stuff away-of course I do then get the tax deduction at good will but it certainly doesn't add up to 1k Saved! So Kudos to you
