Do you/ did you have a "kid's table" at Thanksgiving? How long did you have to eat there? Was it a big deal to move to the grown up table?
I remember hating to have to eat with all the little kids when I was about 12.

I was the only kid. They allowed me to sit at the table with everyone else, but you could tell they didn't like it.

My mom's main floor is pretty open. We have people sitting everywhere- At the barstools at the island, at the kitchen table, in the dining room and at the "Kids" table. Here it really is a Kids Table. The oldest one that sits there usually is a small 8 year old the rest are 7, 6, 5, and 3. DS is 14 and he and his two cousins (13 and 12) usually sit at the island.

No tables at our family holiday dinners. It was always buffet style free for all with about 50 people in attendance.

Any holiday/family b-day meal at Grandma's (AKA my mom) always involves multiple tables: dining room for the "adults", kitchen for the kids, and sometimes a folding table in the family room for overflow if we are all there.
The last few dinners at Grandma's, some of my oldest kids got to sit w/ the adults since a few of my sibs and crew weren't there. The girls were thrilled not to have to sit w/ the loud hooligans (2 5yo, 3 7 yo, 2 9 yo). DS4 (14) was not as pleased to not make the cut.

I grew up at a kid's table. Hated it. Because of that, when we host everyone sits together. It's a great opportunity for kids to learn manners. If they get bored, tired or restless after a while, they ask to be dismissed and they get to go off and play or watch TV.

We didn't really have one as a kid because there weren't that many of us and we could all fit at the table. As an adult - BEST INVENTION EVER. ;D

Ironically, the "kids" now that they are in high school and college prefer to have their own table.

When I was a kid we ate at Grandma's. She had a TINY eat-in kitchen. Being a kid, I had to squeeze in on the side of the table next to the wall. I barely fit in it, and forget about getting out when you're done or bored. My cousins (who are 14 years older than me) usually had to sit next to me, or in the corner if one of my uncles hadn't claimed the corner early.
Only about 1/2 of us fit in the kitchen (including the people standing in front of the fridge and sink and counter. If you needed anything, it was less than an arm's reach from someone. Everyone else ate in the living room. It was roomy and awesome in there compared to the kitchen, but you were kinda screwed if you wanted to get into the kitchen for seconds!

My husband has (finally) admitted that we have to have a kids table. There are seven adults and six kids. Our table streeetcchhhes to ten with all the leaves in. We did eleven last year because one was in the high chair. There is always one in the high chair here. But we've added another baby and my DIL's mom (whom we really like and who has a standing invitation to anything at our house). It just won't work any more. I was going to put a table in the living room, but DH is going to exile the "older" children (the two sixes and the nine-year-old) to the sunroom. There they always argue about who called the other one poopy-head. I may have to stick my son out there to referee. He IS the youngest adult who isn't breast-feeding. I expect a post from him soon about how my mom sticks me at the kids' table at age 33.

We had a glorious kids table when I was growing up. It was my 3 cousins, my brother, sister, and me. Sometimes they'd put us out in the garage on a carpet with a heater turned on. They left the door open into the main house. We had our own little serving bowls of food, a table cloth, and napkins. Boy, we had fun and thought we were putting one over on the grownups. Eventually, we got old enough to sit with the grown-ups, but they were kind of boring ( expcept for the grandparents ), so half of the time, we just stayed at our little table....

We routinely had holiday dinners at my aunt's house and she only had so many spots at the "adult" table. You basically hate to wait for the grown ups to die to get their spot...I remember being 22 years old, sitting at the kids' table and giving gramma that stink eye

No kids table with us. But then as a kid we use to grab the food at my grandmothers and hightail it to the basement to watch T.V, the adults were boring.

At my grandmother's house we always had a kids table, but I never had to sit there. I was the oldest grandchild and the only girl, so the boys sat at the kids table, but I got to sit with the adults. She still has a kids table because of space issues, it's just that the kids are now adults and there's a couple grandkids tossed in.
