Where do you or where will you draw the line at end of life support? Do you have a medical advanced directive and POA ? Did you invest in long term care insurance? Just wondering what your thoughts were on those issues.

Yes, I have all the paperwork done for end of life decisions. I am 71 and in good health except for this stinkin kidney stone.
My directive states a DNR when it comes to that. I don't want to spend my last days hooked up to machines to make the quanity go up and the quality go down. Don't have long term care. I looked into that and decided it wasn't worth the cost to me. The insurance company wanted too much personal information that I wasn't willing to give.
Genetically I have another 20 fairly healthy years and will dry up and blow away. At my age if I get any agressive cancers I'll let nature take it's course. I've had a couple of basal cells taken off but that was for cosmetic reasons.

I have mother's Durable Power of Attorney and am aware of what she wishes. She also has an Advanced Directive and is a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate). I have an Advanced Directive and am also a DNR. My daughter has my Durable Power of Attorney. We've got our bases covered.

The insurance company wanted too much personal information that I wasn't willing to give. -------------- So what happens if, God forbid, you suffer a debilitating stroke and need long term care? Who picks up the tab, because you didn't want to divulge all that personal information?

DH has instructions to give me "the cocktail" as does my sister and one of my friends.
Windshield washer fluid, vodka, and crushed Tylenol. Use the pinks washer fluid, mix it up, and put an umbrella in it.

I recall telling a nurse at the end of Dad's life that it didn't make any difference if he died from an overdose of morphine or waited another 24 hours to die in pain. It was so...horrendous. I know she was just doing what she was allowed, but it didn't make much sense to me. I don't understand letting someone suffer when there is no hope. I understand the law and I understand there would be some butthead out there who would sue, but I sure wasn't one of them.

The papers on DNR need to be taped to the door of the house the person is in.
I witnessed a conversation where a nurse asked a relative of a terminally ill patient about this. The relative had no comment one way or another. I do believe the pain should be controlled for everyone's sake.

What "personal information" could be so private you're not willing to reveal to an insurance company?? Wouldn't your Doctor/GP already have been provided with that information and have it on file in order to treat you?
When I/we got medical insurance, I willingly filled out the forms, went through any physicals if required, and paid for it in order to have coverage - including prescription costs & hospital stays in case I ever need them (which I have in the past).
What happens if you get a debilitating disease or condition (such as a stroke) and need long-term care? You'll be paying a much larger bill than if you were covered - and without your bases covered, you'll probably get minimum basic care - if you're lucky.

An insurance company is way different than a medical office insurance questionnaire. I checked on LTI and was told that the questions have to be asked as a screening tool as most people looking for LTI do not qualify as they are too far along.
Those insurance agents can and do get into your medical files. It's a shock when the IA brings something up you had long forgotten about.
