does anyone know the recipe for cleaning the inside of my dishwasher with vinegar? it is getting stained, we don't put really dirty dishes in there with ketchup and other stuff to drip off onto the bottom. But it isn't as clean as it used to be. isn't there a 'hint from heloise' that i could use? baking soda, vinegar? you run it through with an empty machine and it cleans it. we have used name brand detergent and also off brand, powder and liquid and gel caps. any ideas?

I also use a product called Lemi-shine, and my dishwasher is now amazing! Of course - that is mostly for hard water, I think. I don't know, but the product changed my life, so I tell everyone about it. If you have hard water, go buy a case of Lemi-shine and use it every time.

Scrub it with a bleach or bleach alternative product.

You can also scrub it with Comet, Bon-ami or Bar Keepers. And then put a gallon of white vinegar in it and run it twice.

Do you have hard water? That produces stains that take more effort to get rid of. Google for suggestions.

A packet of lemonade or lime koolaid (without the sugar). Put it in the soap dispenser and run a cycle. And it smells nice

If the inside of your dishwasher isn't stainless steel you can use plain old lemon juice. I think lime works as well.

If Tang and Lime Kool-Aid can slick-shine the inside of a dishwasher, what is it doing to the inside of a person? :-(

kitten - its the citric acid that cleans it. Probably not good for your teeth though!

Lemi-Shine is the bomb.
I also noticed a lot less residue inside the dishwasher when we switched from the Cascade liquid packs to the Finish Powerball (or whatever it's called).

Eco friendly: To get your dishwasher smelling clean again, the first thing you should do is clean the filter according to the manufacturer’s directions. Then, use white distilled vinegar to dissolve water spots and deodorize the inside. Pour 2 cups of white vinegar into a bowl and then place it upright on the lower or bottom most rack. Run the machine on the short or energy efficient cycle and your done! Simple as that, and now you have a clean and deodorized dishwasher.

The stains were behind the silverware holder on the door. It is the length of the door and I guess food gets stuck back there. I have never had luck with the magic eraser. I took the silverware holder off of the door, spread it out on the top rack and scrubbed the door with Comet. Then I poured vinegar in both detergent compartments and turned it on the hottest water temp it has. It looks good and we are ready for Thanksgiving. Thanks for your help.
