I am very curious. Tonight, DH & I heard on the NBC evening news that General Allen and his friend ( I'm not calling her anything more than that ) had about 20,000 emails entailing 30,000 to 40,000 that were sent to each other within the last two years. I don't know if that comprises emails from just him to her, or both of them responding to each other back and forth.
However, figuring that there are 730 days in two years, I divided 20,000 by 730. That comes up to 28.4 emails per day. I assume that some of them were pretty lengthy, given that there are 30,000 to 40,000 pages that are being inspected by our fearless Inspector General and his/her staff. No doubt, they're being watched in case they send topless photos of themselves to General Allen's friend like that F.B.I. agent did. But I digress.
Even divided by two, that comes up to almost 15 longish emails per day on each side ? I really don't have time to send 15 length emails per day. Even if the General was emailing her in his off hours, wouldn't that be taking a lot of time away from his generaling ? If he has an email addiction to his friend, how will he have time to command all of the forces in NATO and take care of all of those competing countries over in Europe ? I think maybe we need to get someone else for the job.
Let's see- the Secret Service was f---king whores in S.A. when they were supposed to be guarding the president, General Patraeus is f---king his main squeeze while being the head of our international security agency, the squeeze has time to send out threatening anonymous emails while on her book tour, and General Allen has time to do lots and lots of personal typing. Somehow, I'm not too impressed by how our tax dollars are being spent. If you're the general in charge of the lives of our soldiers, or you're an agent in charge of the president's security, or you're in charge of dangerous and secret spying operatoins, please don't be a sap.
Just my opinion. But boy, there is some stinky cheese in here somewhere....

A lot of the 30,000-40,000 pages are probably signatures/extra spaces that come from printing - I doubt it's all juicy text. But yes, still very much a distraction!

Yes, that could be true, Mid, but the whole thing is still stinky cheese.

Not to turn it into a political thread, but I cannot believe that we have soldiers over the way who need more guidance and attention than what they apparently are getting.
Gen., if you can't commit 100%, don't ask our servicemen to give 100%.

How the hell did they ever get any work done? That's what I wanna know! Well, SHE didn't work. She's a "wealthy socialite" wife of an oncologist, so apparently she has plenty of time on her hands. As to him, who knows!

I live where the 1st 'other woman' lives. About 20 miles away. That is all the news reporters are talking about. And talk about 'camping out'. In the front yard.
I feel sorry for the husband and kids. He apparently was playing Mr Mom, holding down a medical practice and taking care of the household.

Call me a skeptic, but this entire mess just doesn't pass the smell test!!! Jill is an unpaid Social Liason? ? She has access to the 4 Star General in charge of Central Command??? Reality is: No one could write this story as life is truly stranger than fiction.

I think of them more like texts than emails. Don't some texting/chat programs send everything to your email?
A lot of people (my teen-20 something kids) can easily send several hundred texts a day, especially when they have GF or BF.
What get's me is the stupidity of sending anything via text or email that can be traced back to you, when you are in a public position.

You have to figure some of the email included the text of several previous emails in the exchange (typical Reply To format), which would add a great deal of length.
One short email of "Yes" could be 5 pages long because it contained the previous 3 days worth of conversation.
