I will have to tell Goose that we are not normal people and are actually unhappy in our marriage! Yes we hold hands when we go for walks. But he knows I would probably puke on his shoes if he started babytalk! I hate babytalk and never did it with my kids. BUT I did give my kids nicknames like Pookie Bear and Fuzzy Wuzzy (my son has a lot of hair and was born with a lot of hair!). But yeah..baby talk....

If DH and I use baby talk it's totally sarcastic. Like when he has a cold he is such a big baby! So, as a loving wife, I will say to him "Oh, poor little baby's gonna die from a little wittle cold." It makes him laugh and that's my nice way of telling him to quit whining. If that doesn't work I just tell him to STFU! Hey, it works for us. ;D

There was a show on A&E I think..about people with strange/crazy obsessions. One was a creepy guy who enjoyed being treated like a baby. Maybe your husband has been trying to tell you that he wants to be treated like a baby for 20 years. Creepy. But whatever.
I'm not sure how I would react to my husband if he started talking to me in baby talk. I would imagine I would laugh AT him. The first time. IF it happened again....well some things should get ya a free pass out of jail.

And who - besides you - says it's "not normal"?
My parents (even after 60 yrs of marriage) strolled the park (or mall or wherever), hand-in-hand - and even *shock* KISSED in public.
Not only them, but most married friends/family I have are affectionate and happy. Maybe your life/marriage sucks, or every little thing your spouse does grates on your nerves, but I sure don't believe you're in the majority.

Last time I've checked PDA wasn't really popular in society. We cringe at youngsters when they are sucking faces in public...mind you most of the time cute pretty faces! But oldies PDA should be treated by their phsychologist. IMO and I am sure I am majority here. On this I mean subject. Ask anyone! Maybe when he looks at you he sees a sweet little baby waby and can't help himself I wish he could help himself...and yes it is possible to that he sees me as his baby...does it make him a pedophile?

Wow, your marriage must suck royally to be this bitter about relationships! FWIW, I think on old couple sweetly holding hands and smooching is downright sweet and should be encouraged. Love is beautiful!

I called my son "Little Bear" when he was born. Now, if we are in public and he isn't doing what I tell him, I call him "Baby Bear" to humiliate him. Actually, I often say "It is time to go, because I'm going to start calling you your nickname. So, we can stay, or get in the car." It is amazing how fast he can find his shoes and get into the car.

Wow, your marriage must suck royally to be this bitter about relationships! FWIW, I think on old couple sweetly holding hands and smooching is downright sweet and should be encouraged. Love is beautiful! Love is beautiful! And it is even more beautiful in a privacy of your own HOME! Let people wonder how beautiful it is...make them wanna know. Don't show them! How about that? I can tell you that my observation is that people who have needs to demonstrate affection in public have problems when they are alone together. Its almost seems like they want to kiss in public so people think they are happy so AFTER they can go home and smack each other over the head with kitchen appliances! Yep! You right. My marriage sucks based on my post. If you are making these kind of assumption about everything in life - good luck with that. Believe everything you read on Internet.

LOL, I'm not the one assuming that 90% of marriages suck, and that if people are publicly happy that means they must be privately miserable.

So you are believing that 50% marriages that ended up in divorces where happy ones? Also you are believing that 50% that are still married are ALL hapy 50%? How gullible is it?

I don't make assumptions about individual marriages based on made-up statistics like '90% of married people are unhappy'. I do think that it's very unlikely that only 50 out of 1000 marriages are enjoyable to the people who are in them.

Ask any family therapist why are they staying in business. No one will tell you 'because very happy people come to my office every day to tell me HOW happy they are and pay me $100 per hour!'... So not to be a marriage downer - I am positively sure my 100 out of 1000 number is pretty close.

Of those that have not ended in divorce, 90% are unhappy. 10% of the remaining 500 still married is 50. No! 50% marriages are ending aka divorce. Out of 50% that don't want to divorce - 90% are unhappy. 10% are delirious...and in denial. Like you.
