I think it is genius. If you can't see straight through this, you're blind. They're doing it to get liberals to make the argument about healthcare. I doubt they'll step on this landmine, but it's nice to see someone at least has the brains to set the trap.

I think it is genius. ... I think it is a waste of taxpayer money. But after all, they are politicians.

Palmbeach you are exactly right. Rapid City Journal interview with one of the lawmakers stated it was to draw attention to the healthcaremandate to force folks to buy health insurance.

It's not a good idea to make people buy health insurance but it is a good idea to make them buy guns? What about convicted felons? They can't own firearms. Do they get an exemption? How about the mentally ill? Do they get an exemption? How about the really stupid? Or the just plain violent? Do we start a voucher program for the poor people? I mean, if you want a gun, go get one if you're otherwise qualified to own one, but what if I don't want one?

Swamp the point being what else can government "force you" to buy? That is the point of the legislation introduced. It is intended to open up a lot of discussion.

However, I think it's a bad comparison because it's never illegal to own a health insurance policy, but it is illegal for some people to own firearms. Also, nobody ever went postal and committed mass murder with a health insurance policy. I mean they could bore people to death by reading it to them, or inflict paper cuts, but I don't think anyone would get killed.........

The legislators chose guns because they know that issue gets the attention of the MSM.

The problem I have with this is that these legislators admit they have no intention of this ever being put into law. They used state/public resources to put forth something that they knew (and probably hope) would never pass. Aren't conservatives all for fiscal responsibility? Yet, this kind of waste is ok, because they are trying to make a point. I think this is no better than filing a false police report.

Still they have a point...the MSM doesnt get all that excited and report when San Francisco mandates how much salt Mc Donalds get to put in your Fries or when LA bans building fast food places in neighborhoods because people dont eat healthy enough in some neighborhoods

100s if not more, pieces of legislation get introduced each year by members of congress, that have not a snowballs chance in that hot place, just so congressmen can send out quarterly newsletters(or emails) to constituents about how they introduced or supported various pieces of useless legislation, to only give the impression that they are working hard for their district.

I can't imagine a bogus bill like this is really what is costing the Federal government so much money. The amount they will spend to introduce this is fairly minimal compared to any number of stupid programs you have never even heard of.

I mean, they reported on those issues. Are they supposed to report them more excitedly? Vociferiously? Report it in bold and caps?

Not until you hit 55. Those working will be taxed to provide AR15's to those 55 and older. We can call it readycare.

It is only the money spent on what you don't support that matters.

I love it!! If the gov't can force people to do something they are not doing via the commerce clause (which they cannot) re. healthcare, then they can do this, also. As for not everyone can qualify for guns, gee-- what about the illegals (so far..) They can't qualify for healthcare (yet..) Same thing. This is hilarious.

I mean, if you want a gun, go get one if you're otherwise qualified to own one, but what if I don't want one? I think you're catching on to the whole opposition of government forcing you to purchasing anything. Think of the infections that could set in from all the paper cuts.....
