Ok, so I go to vote today. They ask me which district I'm in and point to a map, but it's really confusing because I'm right on the edge. So they look in the book and can't find me as a registered voter. But I could have sworn I registered when I got my driver's license last December. I distinctly remember them asking which party I wanted to be affiliated with.
Anyway, they can't find me so I had to cast a provisional ballot.
I'm upset that they couldn't find I was registered. I registered but they must have screwed something up on their end.
The entire process took about 45 minutes. The lady who had to take my ballot after I was done with it was in the bathroom for like 15 minutes.
So, any interesting voting stories (not that mine was really interesting). How lond did it take you?

We are required to mail in ballots so mine was quick. I copied my answers from my ISO since he already did his. He got a lot of wrong answers so I pretty much offset his votes, it doesn't help to copy from someone with the wrong answers. I signed it and left it with his so he put on postage and mailed them both last week.

Here's my story that I told on EE's anonymous note thread:
Dear Voting Organizer people,
I understand that sometimes you have to wait in line to vote. To expidite this you had 3 stations set up, A-H, I-N, and O-Z. Now when I went in this morning I got to stand in a line that wrapped out the door, down the hall, past the exit door and almost to the door to exit the building. What was this line you ask? The line to get in? NO! it was ONLY THE O-Z line. The other two name catagories at any given time ad 3-5 people. In the almost hour i was the, the longest I saw either of those two lines was 8 people. So can you please explain to me why the O-Z wan't split up in some way so we didn't have to be at the polling place for an HOUR to vote when other last names were in and out in 15 or less? (I got to see lots of ppl go in and leave while I was in line)
Signed, Obviously you lack logistical planning skills

It took over 2 hours and there were only ~60 people in front of me. Very slow since I know others that waiting for 2 hours with 150+ in the line. All the old people were taking to long! I live downtown so the district is split between young people that want to live downtown and all the retirement high rises. I made a new friend in line though, so that's nice.

Same area as Crone, so also mail in ballots. MIL passed in March. All of her mail is forwarded to us. We did not get a ballot for her, but we weren't expecting one. Mailed in our ballots, a couple days later mailed in the roomie's ballot. Then we got in the mail voter report cards (basically shows how often you vote compared to your neighborhood) for roomie and MIL, but never got them for DH and I. The fact that MIL got one had me worried that somehow her ballot got mailed out but not to us. Luckily, our state also lets us check online to see if our ballots have been received. So today I double checked and mine and DH's ballots had been received and no ballot has been turned in for MIL, so we're still good.

Though, when I told my friend I met a cute guy in line she was like "Dammit! I voted by mail!".

I won't vote until tonight. I'm on the west coast, so they will be calling the winner before I even leave work today.

They complained about it, but I distracted them with a discussion about the various candidates and issues. They were surprisingly knowledgeable and thoughtful. They had the correct answers, too! ;D DH, though, he failed big time.

Some states have pages and pages of things they are voting for.. It gets ridiculous. I don't know why people don't take the mailer with all the questions and look at everything ahead of time. I bring a little cheat sheet with me, with everything I'd already decided to vote one way or another. we had 3 ballot questions in MA, plus a couple non-binding initiatives that were on some ballots. my town happened to have both questions, so I had all of 5 things to answer past choosing candidates for office. as far as how long it took, I deliberately go to vote around mid-afternoon so that it will be quick and painless. I was actually surprised that I had to wait a few minutes to check in today. must be the hotly-contested Senate race that brought the crowds in.

Beyond the ridiculous amount of people to vote for (Soil & Water Conservation Supervisor?!?) there were 12 Constitutional amendments, 4 charter amendments, and 1 special referendum. I gave up before I even started on my mailer - 6 pages total and it's those super long pages too.

DH and I hate to negate each others votes. We have been known to negotiate if we feel more passionately about one thing than the other. As in "I'll vote for x proposition if you'll vote for y proposition"

I went to vote around 2:30 and everything went smoothly until I had to submit my completed ballot. The ballot machine wouldn't accept it. It wouldn't accept a half dozen other ballots either. After about 10 minutes of rejected ballots, they unlocked the machine so the ballots could be dropped through a slot. Whew! I noticed a petite young blonde woman standing nearby while they were struggling with the ballot machine. She looked familiar to me but I couldn't place her. Then I realized she was a friend of a friend whom I'd met a couple of times. I turned to speak to her but she turned away with that certain kind of body language that lets you know you're rejected. After she deposited her ballot, she couldn't get out of there fast enough. Strange. Glad we don't see each very often.

I waited about 20 minutes because our poll worker seemed to struggle with the voter lists and maintaining her focus for more than 10 seconds. Every other line was under 2 minutes. I've got to look into being a poll worker next election. It's time for that lady to move on to sharpening the pencils and pouring juice for the volunteers.

I was actually surprised that I had to wait a few minutes to check in today. must be the hotly-contested Senate race that brought the crowds in. I usually mark up my sample ballot and bring it with me. I almost did the early voting at the County Clerk's office but didn't wade through some of the local stuff in time. The hours were shorter on Monday compared to Saturday and Sunday. (Doh!) Probably a good thing as early afternoon I get ready to walk over to vote and notice I forgot about the school board elections as they were in a little box at the bottom of the ballot past the questions. Glad I reviewed it again as the school board and the related school budget can be roughly a third of the property taxes in NJ. It was cool that one of the peeps up for a school board seat had video snippets of his answers to the candidate night. (I really miss the county my house was in. The local weekly paper always gave me a heads up on any of the candidates nights/Women League of Voter's events. One of these days I'll figure out where they hide the announcements before the event!) One last funny thing. I got two political calls after 5PM today reminding me to vote. I usually vote the last hour or two the polls are open but today I went earlier as I wasn't sure about the power situation. I only had to wait for one person so it was pretty quick. (If I paid for robo calls as vote reminders I think I'd schedule them for 8PM Monday night.)

Chiver, what was the second non-binding question? I had one question with 2 issues in it: whether corporations should be entitled to the same rights as human beings (LOL) and whether my Congresspeople should vote for a Constitutional amendment that limits election spending. I looked it up for a more detailed blurb, this is what the Berkshire Eagle had to say about it: A second, non-binding question, known as "Budget for All" by its backers, will appear on the ballot in Southern Berkshire County.
It asks voters to call upon Congress and the president to prevent cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Veterans benefits, or to housing, food and unemployment assistance; create and protect jobs by investing in manufacturing, schools, housing, renewable energy, transportation and other public services; provide new revenues for these purposes and to reduce the long-term federal deficit by closing corporate tax loopholes, ending offshore tax havens, and raising taxes on incomes over $250,000; and redirect military spending to these domestic needs by reducing the military budget, ending the war in Afghanistan and bringing U.S. troops home safely now.

Wow, we didn't get that. Hmmm. I don't think I'm that far away from you either. But, I did notice that my precinct has a different state rep than the other 3 precincts in town, so that may have something to do with it.

my mom didn't see this one either. she tried to explain how the process works for getting questions like these onto various ballots, and it was making my head spin.
who is your state rep, if you don't mind my asking? mine is Eldredge.

Well, according to my ballot and some of the signs in my town, it is Alice Peisch. But, I don't live in any of the towns her website says she represents, LOL. Maybe I got the wrong ballot.

It does? I had no idea. Does that mean if we mail in our ballot early we won't get robocalls??? I dropped my ballot off at DD's school yesterday, but I would totally mail it in early if that let everyone know it was pointless to call me.
