I was just thinking how in the movies they always find journals or logs of someone who's dead or missing. Especially in police movies.
In real life, how many people keep diaries or journals of things they do or what they're thinking at the time? I never felt a need to record my thoughts or what happened to me.

No, but I did a couple of times when I was on a big adventure just because I wanted to be able to go back and "relive" it a little. It's been a year since I hiked Kilimanjaro with my friends and we just met and re-read our journals. It was fun.

I did when I was young. Then my sister found it, read it and ratted me out to my mom.
Lesson learned- never put the good stuff in writting.

Nope, no journal. I do blog my marathon training but that is it. I also did a journal for when my brother and I took a European vacation this spring.

No. I don't have any deep thoughts worth recording.

I've kept one on and off since I was about 10yo. I agree they are fun to reread years later. Journaling (at least MY journaling) is about small moments/emotions rather than "first we did X and then we did Y and then we went and did Z." Since I tend to forget the small moment stuff as I age, having it recorded is really precious to me. Even the things I recorded as an idiotic teenager are fun to read. ;D
I posted recently about my blog I've had for six years now about my kids' lives. I consider it one of my greatest achievements as a parent because it is a lovely (IMVHO) recording of who the kids were at various stages. I didn't record stereotypical things like bday parties or xmas gifts, but little comments/emotions/moments. Now when I reread things from four years ago, I'm so beyond thankful because they were things I had already forgotten about.

Journal roughly translated means "evidence." No thanks.

The only journal I ever kept was at 16 and because I knew my parents were snooping around my room a lot. So I took a week of study halls and made a fake journal over the past year about drinking, experimenting with drugs, getting a girl pregnant, stealing things to sell to get money for the abortion, etc. It wasn't hard to figure out the day they found it.

Hmmm, didn't think about things like facebook or blogs. Those are baiscally one giant journal where people give a play by play of their lives for all to see.

Journal roughly translated means "evidence." No thanks. That was my thinking too. What gets me is in the media, the bad guys always leave records and journals of their crimes. It even happens in real life, why the hell did Nixon tape himself ordering illegal acts?

I've "journal'd" only a handful of times. It helps me if I'm going through something difficult.. it helps me sort out my thoughts and emotions and getting it out on paper really gives me a sense of peace. I usually throw it away once I've worked through whatever it is that's bothering me. I'd prefer to not leave any evidence behind... Don't worry. Where you hid the bodies is still a secret. But I'm running out of space and need another freezer. No, I don't journal. Unless people want to read about me scooping kitty boxes and how drunk I can get I really don't see the need. Most people I know already know about all of that or are there with me as a witness.

No, I am too paranoid.
I do regret not keeping it during pregnancies and infant/toddler years. I guess it's not too late to start............

No. I don't have any deep thoughts worth recording. But, I have started my second "10 year journal" -- the first was given to me by a family friend. It only has room to write a few lines a day. I fill it out randomly, but it is kinda fun to be able to look back at previous entries. I couldn't figure out how to add a picture, but here is a link to a 10 year journal: www.solutions.com/jump.jsp?itemID=17444&itemType=PRODUCT

I used to... I still have the diary I got at age 13, I "finished" it around 17. Pretty hilarious early teenage stuff. I kept a diary through most of college, it's saved somewhere on the hard drive. Also have a Livejournal/Deadjournal with all the incriminating entries set to private. Hopefully in 10 or 20 years it will be interesting to go back and read, right now most of it makes me cringe. Haven't really since DH and I got together. We are pretty boring

Let's see- there's the LJ, there's my 4 blogs, there's FB, there's here, and there's my poetry and fiction, all of which reflect a lot of what I was thinking about/feeling when it first got written (even if it has been subsequently edited). But no handwritten journal.

For awhile I kept one in college. I wonder where it is now...?
I have used iDaily Diary on my PC. I can set a password for it. I used it for about two years, then stopped about a year ago. I should get back to using it. Not that I usually write about feelings, etc., but more for keeping track of when things happen. It's nice to be able to look stuff up.

I kept a journal when I was in high school. Now the only journal I have is one that I'm keeping for my DS. Each month I summarize things we did and his likes. Hopefully one day he'll read it and maybe remember some of the things we did or maybe he can correlate the journal with pictures I haven't put in the scrap book.
