So for the amusement of all I have decided to try this. They say to make sure lots of people know so they can push you to finish. I think posting on an Internet board for the amusement of all should accomplish that. If any one wants to join me feel free. Thank you all for your time.

Here is my novel.
Once upon a time there was a lovely little sausage called Baldrick, and it lived happily ever after.
I hope you enjoyed it.

I did NaNoWriMo a couple of years ago. It was fun! It was my first original story. I didn't finish it, but I made my word count by deadline and I had a good time trying. It's best to track your word count with someone who can help keep you motivated.

Good Luck, that sounds interesting. Write a sentence no longer than 50- 60 words and submit it to the popular Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest. It's a contest to see who can write the best purple prose. Bulwer-Lytton is infamous for penning: "It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents, except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness."Last year's 'Winner': "As he told her that he loved her she gazed into his eyes, wondering, as she noted the infestation of eyelash mites, the tiny deodicids burrowing into his follicles to eat the greasy sebum therein, each female laying up to 25 eggs in a single follicle, causing inflammation, whether the eyes are truly the windows of the soul; and, if so, his soul needed regrouting." —Cathy Bryant, Manchester, England www.bulwer-lytton.com/index.html

the thread is here: notmsnmoney.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=offtopic&action=display&thread=27382duotrope isn't for publishing books- it's for getting short pieces published- anthologies and magazines, etc. We discussed book publishing a little bit, and I can try to answer specific questions. I don't do NaNoWriMo. I always think about it, but I just don't write that way, not fiction, anyway. Though I should work on the current story a bit more often. It's taking a long time to get completed writing only for an hour or so every other week.

It's probably better for the world if I don't write a novel.

wrongside: my minor was in writing and I've taken two certificate courses specifically on writing and publishing "commercial" fiction. I'll be happy to answer any questions for your son that I can.
As I mentioned on the other thread, Tor will accept unsolicitied/unagented submissions (if he's writing sci-fi/fantasy) but not many places do. If he's not as interested in having a physical book, a lot of people are doing really well self e-publishing via Amazon and Kindle aps. Especially for a young writer like your son, that's a great way to get some exposure and to build a portfolio of sorts so that if he keeps wanting to do this, he has a body of work he can direct an agent or editor toward.

Are you using a keyboard hooked to the tablet, a text to speech program, or am I the only one that can't type on those things?

I have a keyboard to attach but I can actually type about as fast as I can think of the story on my tablet. I definitely do not do the keyboarding I learned in high school but it works well for me.

The Bulwer-Lytton site claims the deadline was in April.
Perhaps I'll submit:
Our story begins most appropriately upon the lapidarian steppe of the Hindu Kush, amid the rocky promontories, asphyxiating winds, and bedraggled shrubs clinging as shipwrecked mariners to any land offering purchase, whereupon a brindled predator, it's digitigrade form slipping malignly through the crags, its appetition inflamed by the vacuity of its gastrointestinal tract, stalks its caprine prey.

It was a cold and rainy night. The last man on earth was preparing for bed. Then there was a knock at the door.
