Dried blood. Or gather up the poop and throw it on their yard, preferably their porch.

Considerate dog owner here! I just got back from ToTing and I took the dog with us. The dog and I waited at the perimeter of everyone's yard while the kids ran up to the front doors. Aaaaaand I brought bags with me but I didn't need them. Good dog!

What say you?
Please, please, please keep your dog off my lawn even if you clean up the crap.
I don't have a dog for the very reason that I don't want dog shit in my yard. Ever.
I appreciate all of you considerate dog owners. As for the rest, if I see your dog shit in my yard and you don't pick it up, I'll be dropping it in your mailbox. ;D

Sometimes dogs have to pee. I had my female dog (i.e., squatter) make a beeline for someone's hostas planted around a tree, and pee in the hostas. The hostas were a few feet from the sidewalk, the woman was in her yard and smiled at me and I smiled back as we waited for my dog to finish. There was of course nothing to pick up. I went on my merry way and avoided the house after that. I bet she told some of the neighbors my dog pooped in her hostas and I didn't even pick it up. She and I cross paths occasionally and I hope she doesn't remember me.
But I have never, ever, ever had my dog poop so close to someone's front door. Of course I would pick it up and apologize profusely if someone came to the door, but I'm not going to leave the poop there for fear of trespassing on someone's yard.

How could she get away from you if she was on a leash?

Malarky, I hear you and am kind of the same way. The dog doodie in the yard thing is a big part of why we don't own a dog. Even when it's picked up, that's not a spot where I want the boys playing and they do play in the entire yard. It's great that they're active, roll around in the yard, pick up and examine the bugs, pick and sniff weeds to see if they're herbs, etc. and I'm not at all thrilled with the idea of them rolling around where the neighbor's dog has left a present. Of course, there are raccoons, birds and other wild animals, so it's not like any yard is doodie free. Just seems like there's no need to add to what might be there by having other people's dogs walk over to my yard specifically for that purpose. But I realize that it's a neighborhood and everyone feels differently about things, so wanted to see if this is an over the top crazy old person type thing or exactly what the general consensus was.

The one thing I have noticed since we got a dog is that my neighbors are less diligent in picking up their doggie doo-doo in our yard now. Then agian, it could be from the times DH takes our dog out.

Seriousthistime, it sounds like you are a good and caring dog owner and wouldn't deliberately hurt someone else's yard. We don't have hostas around here, so I have no idea what they're sensitive to, but in my yard, I have some plants that would be damaged if a dog repeatedly peed on them, so that's something to think about when walking. Yes, there's no pile of doodie, but it's still not a nice thing if it hurts the plants. Hard to know how different people feel about their yard and plants, so it might be best to just keep her close and not let her sneak off like that if possible.

How could she get away from you if she was on a leash? Zib, are you asking me? She was on a leash, but the leash was about 5' long. Milee: Not dog pee. They are susceptible to rabbits and bugs chewing on them, but that only makes them look not so good; it doesn't destroy them, and then they come back with even greater force the following year. I have a lot of hostas in my fenced backyard and if they were destroyed by dogs peeing or romping through them, they'd be long gone. Instead I have to divide them every few years and find new homes for them. Great plants!

I've heard it's unwise to have your dog poop on the next door neighbor's lawn. Especially if you have a pool. Some things have a way of finding their way home again and landing in a place you'd rather not have it land. ;D

Our town has a pick up after your dog ordinance. They will cite you if you are not carrying something to clean up the mess.

Ours does as well but we still have people who carry it for show only.

My dog is always on leash and always stays near the sidewalk (if there is one). If she poops, I clean it up. If she pees on something, well, she's a dog and that is what happens in the out of doors.
I think you should just assume that any patch of nature is covered in dog, cat, bird, squirrel, rabbit, etc... urine. Because it is.
I once had a neighbor try to yell at me because my dog peed on "her" grass. Silly renter. You don't own that grass. It belongs to the condo association. So really, it's my grass.

Ours does as well but we still have people who carry it for show only. I'd be willing to bet that that is exactly what the woman in the OP was doing. There isn't much advantage to letting a dog go 6' into a yard if you intend on picking up the poop. What ticks me off is when the dog walkers let their dog jump all over me. At least when I'm pushing a stroller they have enough sense to keep their distance.
