The article goes on to cite a laundry list of other evidence that suggests Obama & Company may be plotting the first-ever coup. please tell me you don't believe a word of it. My worldview is the same as our Founders- Judeo-Christian. Original sin. All of that. So, of course I believe the heart is desperately wicked, who can know it? If you aren't open to the notion that a despotic leader would try it- how will you prepare to prevent it or resist it? Our entire system of government is predicated on the idea of perpetuating liberty by limiting government power, and in the interest of preserving those limits- obstructing a unification and consolidation of power in any one branch of government. And, as the article states- two modern day, far less radical politicians have already done it.

Message deleted by mmhmm. Sorry, businessguy, but there is no quoting of religious text allowed on P&M. We've found things get very messy, sadly. If you want to re-post with just the link to wiki, that's fine. Thanks.

Oh, and it's the very foundation of Judeo-Christian culture- the belief in a concept sometimes referred to as "original sin". Nothing controversial about it.

It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

Paul meant everybody's soul is wicked. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_sinIt is also taught among us that since the fall of Adam all men who are born according to the course of nature are conceived and born in sin. That is, all men are full of evil lust and inclinations from their mothers’ wombs and are unable by nature to have true fear of God and true faith in God. Moreover, this inborn sickness and hereditary sin is truly sin and condemns to the eternal wrath of God all those who are not born again through Baptism and the Holy Spirit. Rejected in this connection are the Pelagians and others who deny that original sin is sin, for they hold that natural man is made righteous by his own powers, thus disparaging the sufferings and merit of Christ.

Its controversial if you don't believe it. I was raised Lutheran but am a spiritual mutt so to speak. I no longer believe in original sin the way I was taught. I think more accurately sin is separation from God not anything one necessarily does or thinks. I don't know what Muslims believe nor Mormons, but Buddhists and Hindus don't believe in original sin.

sam814 « Reply #3 Today at 17:06 » DJ - its a bible verse. Jeremiah 17:9 - The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? Given recent books I've read on NDE, etc. I think this is an exaggeration. The body may prompt our soul to things it otherwise would not do, but I think it is possible to understand. Why Obama would turn crazy just because he studied Islam in his past is another thing I find funny. Islam, Christians, and Jews all share bits of the same religious 'truth'. Romney is a Mormon, so a religion somewhat based on Christianity that believes prophets came fairly recently. Why won't he go crazy and destroy America? After all he actually has more circumstantial reason to do so. Both state and Federal governments persecuted and killed Mormons. That's one reason he has so many relatives in Mexico. They decided it was safer and didn't want to keep killing government people and getting killed by them as well. Should I be spreading rumors of Vive Mexico if Romney gets elected?

Sorry, mmhmm. Didn't mean to cause trouble. Just trying to give a reference for the quote. No problem, sweetie. Virgil and I just tripped over each other, and I didn't noticed he'd moved the posts to this thread. Mea culpa, for sure!

Our founders were not Judeo Christian in tenet, and original sin is HARDLY a universally accepted tenet...
