Is everyone out there all right ? Did your dog just blow away or the neighbor come floating through your living room ?
What's going on ?

It really didn't amount to much here. I guess we could get more wind and rain overnight, but it wasn't anything like they predicted. Hadn't done a thing til about 1 pm today, when it started light rain, a little wind. Our county office closed at 2, which I was thankful for since I have a 20 mile commute, and State of Emergency called at 4, but was pretty unnecessary. I lost power around 6:30 pm, but it still wasn't doing much. The wind picked up quite a bit around 8, but still not terrible. Doesn't seem to be doing much of anything now. Power came back on a little after 9, hopefully to stay, as they predicted loss of power for days-week. Work is already delayed til 11 am tomorrow, all schools closed. It's a little bizarre. It pretty much missed us completely here in NE PA, unless it gets worse overnight. I was afraid I was gonna have to hunker down with the dogs and sleep on the floor in the laundry room in the basement (our storm/safe room) but we are in my comfy bed! Woohoo for all of the above!

I'm in Virginia Beach. We had lots of flooding, some power outages and most everything was closed today. My office was closed and will open late tomorrow. They're expecting more flooding overnight as the wind shifts around to the WNW. The temps have dropped significantly tonight and it's expected to be colder than normal for the rest of the week.
Snow in the wester part of the state and I imagine the ski areas will open soon if the temps don't rise too much and melt it all.

The wind has picked up significantly here in the last couple of hours. I think that we're getting the inland edges of the storm. It's pretty yucky outside.

Beautiful sunset tonight but the light was very strange. Our windchimes are going nuts. (It's crazy to me that we're feeling anything - we're 800 miles inland).

A family in CT lost power and was walking to a neighbor's house when a tree fell on them killing the mother and sending two others to the hospital with serious injuries. Awful.

There was a woman killed in Toronto by a sign being whipped around by the wind.
ETA - They are calling it a Sandy related death.

lots of power outages, our entire town is with out it still. thankfully both our houses are ok, no damage. my friend in LI NY is good, one of her pictures was used by CNN even.
it's getting cold and DH is kicking himself for not having the generator hooked up because he and BIL were going to do it themselves to save money....i'm not rubbing it in, i'm not commenting on the topic. my plan since i knew we wouldn't have the generator was to order 2 large pizzas and bake brownies...we had plenty of water. we filled up the tub so we'd have water to flush the toilets, but we lost power monday night about 845 PM and still don't have it. Had to take our frozen goods to a friend's house with power. we did get some kerosene so we are going to see if we can get our kerosene heater working. we may have power by monday.
work called us in yesterday when we had no internet, intranet, or email (so no one could do anything) for 3 hours. there were all of 2-3 functioning traffic lights that i saw, not smart, and no open gas stations. one co-worker said he had enough gas to make it home and that was it. so they smartly closed the base today. it took a lot of calling around on our one functioning cell phone (sprint you suck) to find a gas station open that had gas so we could fill up the truck since we had to drive to work and waste gas for that...but we at least got hot showers that day.

My sister and her BF are OK but her house (LI) flooded. She has no power, no cell network, and her washer, drier and boiler all died. So did both cars, hers and her BF's. Her BF has Parkinson's so he really can't deal, so his kids are flying him to his apt in FL. My sister will have to deal with everything on her own. I can understand it but I feel really sorry for my sister. She went to Manhattan today to stay with her younger daughter. I finally managed to reach her three days later (I had updates from her older daughter). I was SO happy to finally hear her voice! But she was upset and crying and she totally blew me off because she is feeling so overwhelmed. She said she was going through her insurance policy when I called so she couldn't speak to me. I am so thankful she is still here, even if she is worried about the rest. My best friend lives in CT, on the beach. She stayed in NYC with her BF and finally accessed her house today and thankfully it is fine. But two days ago she reposted a photo somebody on Twitter took of her street. Her house was still standing, but there was a house that was LITERALLY floating in the canal in front of her house. Archie, she is in Fairfield. Not too far from you, I think.

I found these interesting: status.squarespace.com/status.fogcreek.com/page/2/These are the status updates of 2 companies located in the same building in lower manhattan trying to maintain their servers & webservices. They have generators, but the diesel reserves & pumps are flooded in the basement. So they've taken to setting up bucket brigades to carry diesel fuel up 17 flights to keep the generators running. Just logs their story of trying to keep services going under the circumstances. Impressive dedication IMO.

I have relatives all over NY. Several of their friends have lost houses and cars. Thankfully no physical injuries, but the bulk of them are still without power (and not whining about it) and the community college my aunt works at was sheltering 800 at the peak.
I was disgusted to hear that non-union power workers from out of state were being turned back at the NJ border.

t-urkey-dog, i saw that also. can't the governor of nj over rule the unions at this point? or the president? somebody? i would hate to think that a hospital needed power and because someone isn't a card carrying union member they can't run some power lines and get the hospital back in working order.

Just some heavy rain here that's all. The worst storm we had was the Flood of 1996 and the bridges and buildings were literally underwater.
