I didn't say that - I said that I can't wear yoga pants because it is obvious that I don't work out.

I think your exact words (this was on the old YM board) were "I do not want to see your ass, people! Put on some real pants."

Well, I don't want to see your ass. But whatever. Nobody ever gets what they want.

I was in the grocery store the other day and saw a white lady with a black toddler (so cute!) and I just assumed the woman went black and didn't go back. I guess that kid could have been adopted. I guess I would have known if there was a man shopping with them - but alas, she was picking out her own melons. LMAO!!!!

Yes. She has come to terms with it. She was very good about talking about it afterwards and expressing her feelings and talking about when she was having feelings of jealousy or sadness. I felt kind of bad when I got pregnant again. I didn't know how it would effect her, but she seemed to handle it well. I didn't ever bring up my pregnancy too much, but she asked a lot of questions.

Guessing that I have a beard is somehow more polite than guessing I have body odor? FWIW, Rukh obviously knows me well... I have bought beer and diapers in the same trip.

There was not a single diaper run when I also didn't buy booze of some sort. And then the kids stopped wearing diapers.

Anybody else think it's weird that we all think the people in Walmart are totally crazy, but for the most part, they may look odd but they're not really bothering us (well, ignore the stinky ones for a minute.)
On the other hand, there appears to be some support for bringing a gun to work to protect yourself from someone who was mean to you one afternoon or for shooting someone who may take your TV?
I don't know, but as long as none of them shoot at me, I'm thinking I'd rather deal with the bearded lady with a mullet or the entire family wearing camo than the nice people on this board who are packing heat and not afraid to use it for the least little infraction.

I don't pack heat, and I avoid Walmart if I can at all help it. I'm not to keen on bearded ladies, smelly people or people who are willing to shoot someone over a television set. ETA: You would think I'd started this thread on EE. I'm at how it's devolved from adoption to bearded ladies at Walmart and guns.

Hopefully, one of the nuts will someday protect you or your family. I find that being empowered keeps me from being a victim or giving off victims vibes.

I suggest against this. If her employer has a policy against this, and her purse is open a little, she could lose her job.

You don't need to keep it in your purse but you do need to be very careful with it. I never carry in my purse in case my purse is taken.

I suggest against taking a gun to work if your employer has a policy against it.

I like living somewher that I don't feel I need a gun. And I feel pretty secure no one I'm dealing with is packing either.

Good for you. Because you are lucky enough to live where there are no criminals.

Most of the people I know IRL who are well-known for having guns are the same ones who have suffered burglaries and home invasions. Apparently criminals like to steal guns, who would've thought it?

If you don't know how to use it, you shouldn't have it.

Just to we're all clear - I'm on board with the idea of using a gun to defend yourself or your family from harm. IMHO, a coworker yelling at you or someone stealing your TV do not qualify as the type of "harm" I want to shoot someone over.
That's exactly what worries me, there seem to be a lot of people that are highly reactionary to minor things and also advocate carrying guns... dangerous combo.

I agree wholeheartedly. Most of DH's coworkers appear to be under the impression that should Obama be reelected, he will outlaw all guns - so they are stocking up on assault rifles "while they're still legal." That type of attitude coupled with easy access to semiautomatic weapons worries me a bit!

How did a how picky about adoption thread turn into a shooting someone for no good reason thread? I get bored easily.

Sure, but my point was mainly about the attitude with which his coworkers approach the purchase of these weapons. At least one is going into HUGE credit card debt to buy these guns because he "just knows" that after the first of the year they will be illegal. Conspiracy theorists + guns is not always a great combination...

I'm not offended but I've heard this opinion before. Personally for me adoption was about wanting a child. I could not conceive/carry a child so we turned to adoption. I didn't adopt to save the world... I adopted purely for selfish reasons... I wanted to be a mom. Those who can conceive and give birth to their biological child get to "just be parents". I don't want to make some public statement with my life.. I wanted to "just be a parent". Some people tell us how wonderful we are for adopting and how lucky our kids are. DH and I feel that we are the lucky ones. We ended up with two pretty terrific kids. Not saying if we adopted outside of our race or gender preference we wouldn't have had the same experience. We just wanted as normal of a parenting experience as possible. IMO, wanting to be parent(s) is the only reason to adopt. The attitude that adopting is some sort of magnanimous good deed is revolting to me. Since I'm the only one that mentioned that I think people who adopt are amazing (I said I have the greatest respect for them) I'd like to respond to this because I disagree. Maybe it's not in all cases but we've had people around here lose their child back to the original parents after they changed their minds and got the courts involved. The idea of falling in love with a child that can be removed because of a change of heart or mind - to me - is amazing because I could not handle the heart break. A very good friend of mine just lost her 2 foster kids because of her teenage daughter's actions. Her heart is so broken right now I can't even tell you. She (my friend) was also in the foster care system because her mom abused her and she wanted to make a difference in their lives like was done in hers. The rules are very strict! I think people willing to take that chance or any other issues that could change for them are amazing. Oops - didn't mean to bring this back to topic. Carry on with your guns and Wal Mart speak.
