My former pastor and his wife ( from 30 years ago ) are posting links and likes for the Republican team to my facebook page. I think that that's a blatant invasion of my personal space, since they are doing it without my permission. So, besides posting a polite reply which will get lost in the welter of other Romney comments ( actually they're getting a lot of pushback from anti-Romneyites ), I posted the Romney gangnam-style parody on my facebook page. It's hilarious, but kind of rude. I think that will clear things up for them.
To be fair, I also posted the Obama gangnam-style parody....

It is part of the internet life. Other people are going to disagree. If they are too annoying, set it up so you dont' have to read their news feed or unfriend them.

to your wall? or to their own wall so it shows up in your news feed? if it is to your wall, I think limiting their permissions is absolutely appropriate if they ignore a direct request to stop. If you are seeing what they share in your news feed, just hide them until the election. I've had to do that with some people, and I'm sure I've been hidden too. sent from my electronic distraction.

My in-laws tried that for about a week. If dh or one of the cousins posted any political joke or comment they would reply, but then also post new messages to their wall about books that if they would just read, or watch a video, then they would understand their misguided ways and agree with the in-laws.
Dh is much more patient than I am as I would have just unfriended them, but he spent time calmly explaining online and in person how their behavior was not appropriate. Finally I think he did say that if his posts upset them so much that it would be best if they just ended online contact so his parents stopped.

I try to keep my Facebook page light and just about my personal life, kids, etc. I think most people view FB that way and don't want a lot of spam or controversial postings or discussion. That is why i go to boards. ;D

I thought this post was going to be about those "sponsored" links for political candidates... been seeing a lot of those lately.
For some reason the only sponsored links that show up in my newsfeed are for Richard Murdoch, and while I'm pretty moderate, it will be a cold day in hell before I vote for him. And since they're sponsored, there's no way (I can find) to hide them...

At least with emails if you don't like political or the 'please send to 10 friends for good luck' variety you can delete them without anyone knowing. I think that is a funny solution. I would limit their access or defriend them if necessary if they don't realize that's not appropriate.

It shows up on my page as soon as I open it up. I don't think it's my wall, but it's where I get posts from friends and family, so it might be on the newsfeed. I really don't know. I do know that it upsets me to see my non-favorite politician's face and sloganeering every time I sign on to my facebook page. I think that getting the app with the kitty replacement pictures might be something that I will consider.

I can't stand all of the political postings...at first I would just argue with the offending FB friend just to amuse myself...then I started retaliating by posting a ton of political shit just to let the offenders know how f'n annoying it was, but that caused backflash from people annoyed at ME being annoying and posting political shit!lol Finally, I just hid their posts....I don't shove my political views down anyone's throat so I sure as shit don't want theirs shoved down mine.

People who post things to my page assume the risk that I will delete the post, unfriend them, and/or block them. My page, my preferences, me rules.
If someone placed a political sign in my yard and I didn't want it there, it would be in the trash can as soon as I spotted it ~ why not just do likewise on your Facebook page?

I did unfriend the two people who were insisting on thrusting them onto my facebook page. If I was friends with beerwench on facebook, knowing that she is a conservative and I am a liberal, I would be respectful of her feelings and wishes and not post anything having to do with the Obama campaign on her page. I expect the same consideration from my friends and family.
I don't feel that I should be continually politicized by someone who knows that I don't want campaign slogans, links, and pictures on my page. I just don't feel like I should have to clean up after them. That's why I unfriended the two ( a couple ) that I had known from long ago. They couldn't use their discretion and stop sending me hotlinks and pictures of Gov. Romney straight from his campaign headquarters.
I'm certainly not against someone exercising their constitutional rights to support the candidate and party of their choice. I just think tha after a couple of requests, that I should not be included in their campaign efforts. I just take it wrong, I guess.

My Democratic friend says she's been infected by the other side as well, although she hid all of her friends who were sending her Republican candidate links and pics. She says it's a facebook ploy. It's a waste of time trying to propagandize most people, no matter what their political leanings, and it just heightens their resentment of being bothered and politicized.

Check at the top of the item to see if it says "Suggested Post" or something like that. If it says that, even if your friends liked it, they didn't put it up there. Someone paid for it to show in your news feed and I don't know if there's anyway to hide those (since FB makes a bit of money off of them). As for non suggested posts, your friends can't make their posts show up in your news feed anymore than another's post (don't ask me how FB decides to show some stuff but not others, seems random) - unless they put it directly on your wall. If you ask them to stop putting it on your wall/timeline/whatever and they don't that's rude as hell and I'd block them. If it's just showing up in your newsfeed, hide them until after the election if it bothers you that much (or hide posts on an individual basis), otherwise you'd be asking them to stop posting that stuff on THEIR wall which is rude.

BIL threw a political bomb on FB. He said that if you vote for Romney not to send him Christmas cards and to unfriend him on FB because you obviously want to repress gays. I better not tell DH because he will take him up on the offer. I'm actually really offended by this post - I don't vote on a single issue. I wish my moderate Republican friends would simply be honest. They all say they're voting for Romney because of his economic policies (tenuous and ill-formed as they are), and that they disagree with him on gay rights. Fine. Then look me in the eye, speak with a level clear voice, and say, "My taxes and take-home pay mean more than your fundamental civil rights, the sanctity of your marriage, your right to visit an ailing spouse in the hospital, your dignity as a citizen of this country, your healthcare, your right to inherit, the mental welfare and emotional well-being of your youth, and your very personhood." It's like voting for George Wallace during the Civil Rights movements, and apologizing for his racism. You're still complicit. You're still perpetuating anti-gay legislation and cultural homophobia. You don't get to walk away clean, because you say you 'disagree' with your candidate on these issues. www.huffingtonpost.com/christopher-hennessy/the-big-lie-i-love-my-gay-friends-but-im-voting-for-romney-anyway_b_2030629.html
