Threads about colleges...popular kids and High schools made me think about my kid's future and I want to ask you if you can make some suggestions on what job can utilize those skills she has.
Since grade 1st she was thrilled to be in school and done well academically...been a friend with most popular girl and hence was popular by association.
In 6th grade of Junior High she was still a good student thrilled to go to school every morning and became leader of the group of her own friends.
At High School she had been a life of the school. Never said 'I hate HS' happy as a clam. Friends and tons of friends in all groups of kids...academically 3.9 GPA and now at college. Describing her life as 'never better...all I had dreamed about etc.'
Having business and undecided. No clue about future profession. Aware of the cituation with life with 'no money' vs 'very comfortable'...
What can a kid like that can become in future? Fairly smart. Overly social. Clueless.

Agree to some extend. If she is asking me to think together...I should do it. The problem I think is that at her age - she is not aware of all existing professions and businesses and all. Maybe just maybe there is something to do that she is made for and she just have no idea such jobs exists. That is what I am searching for...tool that gives you all those jobs you would be good at if you have certain skills. So far teaching is all that comes to mind...but there is not 'real' money in it. If married to a professional person - of course spending summer with kids - priceless!

Oh for FFS, there is money in teaching. The key is to not go into debt 60-100K for a teaching degree or decide that you are owed/deserve the nicest in everything you buy because you are now working.

There's a book called The Occupational Handbook that might interest you and your daughter. It talks about all the various occupations . . . what type of education is expected, the type of duties performed, the salary range, and the demand.
What is she good at academically? Social skills are certainly nice, but they are a part of the package.

This is a big reason why I think kids should work when they are younger and in school. I babysat, worked in a coatroom, sold crafts, and waitressed during grade school-high school years. I may have not learned exactly what I wanted to do in life but I could for sure tell what I didn't want to do!

Looney, I will tell you what I told my own kids. "What will you be able to do when you graduate?" Some people are great at discovering careers after they graduate, and some people choose careers before they start college and train for those.
My son is a CPA, and my daughter is a pharmacist. They love what they do. I honestly believe it was good advice. They came out of college knowing how to do something very specific.

tloonya, Your Daughter seems intelligent and socially outgoing. How about marketing? We really don't have answer for that. Old saying was, do what you love. I think, some extent that will be still applicable. Good luck. www.khake.com/page64.html

I agree with Snowbird. It sounds like she would do well as a Salesperson.
My first wife was a Salesperson for a local radio station. She made a tremendous amount of money doing so. (Only problem she SPENT an even BIGGER tremendous amount of money! But, that's a different topic.)
I suggest that she take Business classes while in college. Accounting. Marketing. Finance. Who knows? She might actually be able to help you run your business better. I'm not suggesting that she needs to become a melon seller. But, she might sell drugs to the doctors. Or maybe become a Real Estate agent. Salespeople get paid a lot by corporations. They're responsible for getting money in the door. Companies are willing to pay a lot to get money in. It sounds like she has all the natural attributes of being a successful salesperson: Smart, attractive, outgoing, gregarious.

Every Pharma Rep I know has all of these qualifications. She would probably be good at it, and they do make very good money.

Thanks to all of you for suggestions. I had actually worked as a IT Engineer for the companies who dealt with getting samples to a doctors. Yes there were lots of money paid to those people but their working hours were too much. Not that I am saying its not worth it - it is but I had not thought about it and now I have a suggestion for her thanks to you. I will also make sure for her to get the link done. Just for fun of it. Marrying the Amish would not be an option because she loves her iphone! What sounds perfect is 'Salesperson for a local radio station'...is this a really how job description goes? How do they sell for radio station? Like for newspaper advertising? Fun! 'Do what you love' is a dream job. The problem is that all they love at this age is to party and gossips! I do not see big career in THAT! Paparazzi? She is good at photography btw...

That is actually her main goal. Entertainment business. However we are much too smart to dwell on this type of thoughts...business first - education! If anything will fall from the sky like 'do you want to be next American Top Model?'...then you will not hear from me for a looooooooong time!

Depending on the agent type, I'd guess mostly business courses.

I have a son who was clueless about what he wanted to do when he started college. Sounds a lot like your daughter, but less social, more introverted. He took some type of "career exploration" class first year in college. He is now planning to be an actuary. He came up with this on his own (and I agree that it fits his skills and personality). Much better than me telling him what he should do. He is now a junior in college and is so focused on his career now that it is all he talks about.

Well my DD went into college with a mindset to be one thing and then she changed it. So you just never know. They talk to professors and other students and get interested in other things. I would suggest your DD start off with just basics and join some clubs her first year in college. She has time to pick a major. Totally use both high school and college counselors.

tloonya, Fun! 'Do what you love' is a dream job. The problem is that all they love at this age is to party and gossips! I do not see big career in THAT! Paparazzi? She is good at photography btw... My main point was, when you love something. You don't mind work hard to get where you want to go. When you look at any successful people with given profession. You will find, they always love what they are doing. And , you and her, least knows what she is good at and loves to do. That is the first step to become a successful in life. Knowing yourself. She has a lot option out there can use her talent.Don't forget she has 4 more years to work on it, what is best for her. Sometimes in life you have to go through few failed attempt to find what you are really good at. Don't rush things, she sounds like pretty good kid. You can only do is guide her but try to not to tell her, what is best for her. Like in a way what you are going through, you use to work as IT engineer and now you are small business owner. See, sometimes it takes few try to find out, what you are really good at.....

Yes, fun! It is the hardest to know what you want! If everyone was born in a families of professionals who are passing their passion on to their kids wouldn't life be easier?

I am modifying this comment a little, wish you come back read what I have to say. You said, It is the hardest to know what you want!Yes, it is. Some people never get to find out what is meaning of their life meant....By the time they realize. They have such a short time left, understanding means less important at that point. The sooner, you find out who you are, it will guide you to happier existent. Everything will work out. Don't worry too much. We all try our best for them. In the end, they are the ones who has to make hard choice. Good luck, tloonya.
