It wasn't suppose to freeze last night, but it did and my tomato plants took a semi-hard hit. About half of the vines are dead. They were loaded with green tomatoes which I had been planning to bring inside to ripen. Is it too late now to do that? Will they rot or ripen? Does anyone know? lone, I wish, I know. But, I don't . But I really loves home grown tomatoes. I have pretty big size deck, I use big pot to glow tomatoes. but it never works out well. Why don't you bring it inside and put it in warmest part of the house, like kitchen. Hopefully that will help.

Blossoms = no good. Pull them out and toss them in the compost pile; they're done.
newer/hard green tomatoes: batter and fry them, pickle them, make chutney; they most likely won't ripen
older green tomatoes/getting ready to start turning red: pluck them from the vine and set them on the kitchen counter for a week. They should finish ripening this way (commercial growers pick "older" green tomatoes all the time and let them ripen on the way to market).
Good luck to you!

If the tomatoes are plump already, but just still green, bring them in and put them in a window where they'll get some sun for a few days. They'll ripen up and start to turn red indoors just as well as they would on the vine outside.

They'd probably be a bit "mushy" by now if the frost did any damage . If it was just a light frost that killed off the leaves, the tomatoes should still be fine.

If they're good-sized green tomatoes, they should ripen if put on a windowsill where they get plenty of sun. Sorry about your plants, lonewolf, but I'm betting you can salvage a lot of those tomatoes for canning.

Make a whole lot of tomato soup and put it in jars.

I have brought in tomatoes that had frozen or mostly frozen before. They don't have the texture that tomatoes should is right. They are downright mushy when they ripened and go bad very quickly. My answer was to cook them in something so that the texture wasn't an issue. I made tomato sauce and salsa with them that I canned. It tasted fine. HTH. ;D

Lone, bring them in and put the tomatoes in a brown paper bag. Most will ripen. Don't ask me why, but the brown paperbag helps. I left some in a dish, and put others in the bag, and those in the bag ripened.

Considering she made her opening post over 3 weeks ago, I'm guessing she's already dealt with the tomatoes one way or another.
