If I can't renew my Verizon services at a reasonable rate I am thinking of replacing them with a smartphone package. The tough thing is it needs to be on the cheap side preferable under $67 or less including taxes. I know Virgin Mobile has some great deals but the coverage in my area is such I don't feel comfortable going with them if it is my only phone and only internet access. Does anyone know of a provider that might be cheap enough for me with good voice quality in NJ? Also, are taxes still like 20% over the package price you agree to so a package of $50 really becomes $60 out of pocket or is it worse than that?

Try net10.com. They may have something. It is a prepaid plan, and start at 200 minutes for around $15. I am not sure how smart their phones are, but all plans include texting, etc. Only problem is the Indian customer service.

boost has unlimited, no contract packages starting at $50/month. With 6 months of ontime payment, teh monthly payment goes down $6 until you get to $35/month.
Net10 has an unlimited $50/month plan as well, but they also have a limited $25/month smartphone package. It will depend on your usage if that would work for you.

ATT Go Phone. My son got a nice Smart phone, i can't remember which one, might be an LG or something. You can check online. Prepaid. You can then buy a monthly prepaid data, text package to suit your needs. I will NEVER go back to a contract phone.

Verizon has prepaid plan $50 per month for unlimited talk, text and web.
Best Buy sells a Verizon no contract phone for $30 and then you buy minutes on cards that are $15+ You can buy the cards ahead and then activate them on line with Verizon at the time you need them (they expire after 30 days despite what the website sales site says).
