I guess I just don't get why adults would want to go to Disney? I could see doing it with DD when she's older, but just for us... I don't get it. Re-live memories? Be a kid again? Like Disney films? Besides there's more to Disney World than 'just' the Magic Kingdom. - EPCOT - as an adult it's fun to see the different pavilions (and try to drink around the world). ;D
- Disney Hollywood Studios - Movie themed park - aka Universal-(very)-light
- Disney Animal Kingdom - a Zoo done Disney style and also happens to have a really fun roller coaster.

What would have happened if he had booked the trip?
I don't think you did anything wrong, it sounds like your vacation dollars are already allocated, and that you are fed up with Disney.
I'm just curious, because sometimes people will play the angle that if someone else says "go ahead", that it must be OK to do so.

I enjoy Disney and a ton of other things that are generally deemed as entertainment for kids. I LOVE zoos! I also enjoy roller skating (typically go on adult night every Tuesday), roller coasters, haunted houses, and a ton of other things.

I think your DH is weird but I think you are very clever! If you had told him no, he would have probably already booked LOL.

We finally did Disney and took our 3 kids this year. Honestly, it was just OK. It was nice to see once but i have no desire to go back and the kids really weren't all that enthralled by it. We just aren't fans of standing in line and watching 3D shows or whatever. Yes, some were really cute. My advice is to book a day at Discovery Cove. You can swim and snorkel over coral reef with tropical fish. My kids LOVED that and that was our fave spot by far.

I'm in a very similiar Mean Wife disagreement with my husband.
For years I've wanted to go to New York.
Last year my extended family decided they wanted to do a family trip, and it was going to be to the Jersey Shore. So, we started planning a trip to New York in tandem. Perfect. Then, they switched it to go to Colorado. We had recently been to Colorado, but decided to go anyway. (Last time we will all be together, blah, blah, blah...)
This summer I started planning my trip to New York - but then my sister sent an email and asked us to come to her house and see the sites there. My husband got really excited, so we did that instead.
So, I thought maybe we could go on Thanksgiving and do the whole "Christmas" thing. But, we've decided to go skiing instead.
Now, my husband announced that he wants to go visit his 90 year old grandma before she dies and while we are there we can make a whole vacation, see the area and see his whole extended family.
Of course it is only fair that after vacationing often with my family we should go see his family. But I really want to go to New York City.

I love all that stuff too, except Disney. But the first time I went there I was 14 and felt like I was WAAYY too cool to be hanging out there with a bunch of little kids. I went to Universal at 17 and had fun, but not enough to justify a flight to Florida (we're within a half-day's drive of Cedar Point). If I had the fuzzy nostalgic child-at-Disney memories it might be different.

I'd rather my husband wanted to go to a strip club than to freaking Disneyland After living 45 minutes from there for nearly 4 years I am all Disney'd out. FWIW- most of my female friends couldn't care less if their spouse wanted to go to a strip club. Every once in a while= no big, every night or every week= not going to fly ( mostly because the cover charge and directs are outrageous $$ wise) My issue with it. And frankly, porn is cheaper.

Porn comes in starwars flavor, too!
Although if there were ever a strip show with starwars characters, I'd totally make my husband take me.

Anna Marie isn't a new place, it's the same old place with Swamp's parents. Yes, that's true. It's also a lot less vacation budget, because they stay with family. Disney costs a freaking fortune. But if Mickey and Minnie had birthed Swamp's dh and supported him for 18 years and put him through college and were in their twilight years I would probably say that a portion of their annual vacation time and dollars should be allocated there too.

I am a horrible parent. I refused to take my kids to Disney. I have taken them on vacations, a cruise, and to amusement parks, but I couldn't stomach Disney.

We went for the first time as adults and we loved it. We did eat our way around Epcot though. The longest line we waited in was actually in the France section of Epcot. We thought it was for an attraction there and were in line for twenty minutes before we got far enough up to realize it was the line to get in the French bakery. We figured that since we had already waited twenty minutes and were at the front of the line that we may as well just get some baked goods.

Except that it's rarely been vacationing with my family, mostly DW's. And now that involves major international travel. I enjoyed going north but this half-way around the world is too much. I wanted to go to Europe and other places. Now I am thinking that I am just too f*ckin' old and sick and tired and I'm going to die soon. So I'll just watch PBS travel shows.

thanks Milee. I guess this is due in part to depression over my mom's recent unexpected death, my own health issues, and turning 60 and approaching retirement. It all accentuates the knowledge that the sands of time are passing through the hourglass.
So...listen up kids!
Don't delay on those things you want to do, trips, etc. Do them now!

Yes, the sands of time are passing, but given where you live, they're crystal white pretty sands. Enjoy it. Sorry to hear about your mom and health issues.

DH and I went to Disney World for our honeymoon and had a fabulous time. We did Disney World and SeaWorld. We went in the mornings, left in the heat of the afternoon and then came back at night for the shows. It was fabulous. We will almost certainly do Disney Land once there's a kid. DH's family are all huge Disney fans and try to go every Christmas. I can see us planning that as a great way to spend time with his family, especially since his parents are both deceased.
I guess I'm lucky in that DH is a homebody. He will never plan a vacation. I plan 5 vacations a year, and we take one maybe every 2 years, so that tells you how it ends up working out. But I love planning them and thinking of the possibilities, even if we decide we're better off saving our money for something else.
As for strip clubs, I've been in them. I know DH has been in them- if for no other reason than he drove cab in Reno. But thinking about it, I don't think we've ever been at a strip club together, which seems odd, given how long we were friends before we started dating. Wouldn't bother me if he went to one now, as long as it wasn't an every day/week thing (as other's have mentioned). I also wouldn't expect it to bother him if I went to see a male revue.

Count me in the no-Disney Camp. I've been there a few times on business and when DS was little he REALLY wanted to go. I caved in and went with no preconceived notion of getting our money's worth out of the admission prices. So, we spent a lot of time in the hotel pool, saw a few things twice, didn't get to some of the "Must-sees" at all, and were happy. Best of all, DS's attitude after that was that we went there, we had a good time, we didn't need to go again. Give me the real, the quirky, the (sometimes) challenging. Let me deal with foreign money, panhandlers, foreign languages, and the occasional subway clerk with a bad attitude. Don't keep reminding me that I'm in "The Happiest Place on Earth" while you've got your hand in my wallet.
I'm not a total grump. I LOVE the water slide at the Contemporary Resort Pool and having to share it with the 4-year olds. But I don't need to pay Disney prices to ahve fun.

<-------------- also no fan of Disney. Moved to FL with the family in elementary, returned to FL as an adult and lived in Orlando for 4 years, but have never returned to FL or Disney since. When I did live in Orlando, my roommate worked at Disney, so I have been there more times than I can count.
I have two kids -- 17 and 7. They have never been to Disney World. Hope that doesn't mean I am guilty of child neglect.

I have two kids ages 10 and 2 and have ZERO desire to ever go to Disney. Neither DH nor my 10 year old have ever brought it up, so apparently it's not high on their wish list either. Thank God.

DH and I are big fans of Disney and we have been there several times. We used to even have a share in a Disney resort at WDW. We love fireworks and epcot and the Animal Kingdom. However, we sold the points before the prices fell so much, and we have moved on to other things. We enjoyed it all thoroughly and spent enough money there over the years to have cured us of going again LOL. There will never be more and better memories for us from Disney than those we already have.
We did rent the Disney yacht the Grande for 4 hours on our honeymoon, and watched the fireworks in the evening from the back deck. The crew was so nice and so happy to have it go out that they gave us free hors d'oeuvres and champagne. It was cool.

I guess I just don't get why adults would want to go to Disney? I could see doing it with DD when she's older, but just for us... I don't get it. I had a vague urge to go. And DH's bosses gave him a bonus of a trip to Disney. So he took me. ;D We had fun, most of the time (we were there the week of 9-11 and a tropical storm came in.) Neither of us has much need to go back but now we have 2 kids under the age of 5, so it's definitely in our future. And we're ok with that.

Disney can definitely be fun for adults. It's not ALL geared toward kids.
