Don't know about everybody else, but I only tend to post about the stuff I actually know about. Doesn't seem helpful to post on things I'm doing badly or am clueless on.
There are lots of things you have figured out, you're just focusing on the things that aren't working.

Would this be a good place for me to whine for a moment about how much the last week has sucked? Since it will be gone in a minute anyway? Thankfully, no one was hurt, but DS totalled his car this week. Let the YM "What were you thinking, buying your kid a car?" begin. After months of jumping through hoops, the powers that be won't sign the permits to open our new bakery location. I've been completely stressing out!!! The upside is, it's only money, in all cases. I was going to work til I was dead anyway. Because otherwise, I'd be bored. ;D

Just whining for a moment. Seriously first world problems. Aggravating, but not earth shattering.
So, Steve, what are you deleting? I've been mostly MIA lately.

Oh, no! Malarky, glad to know DS is OK. Any chance of appealing to the City/County Council on the permits? Our local permitting office is not business friendly at all, but with the recession, businesses are starting to find that by getting some publicity in the paper or appealing directly to the councils, they sometimes get some help. We had some awful issues when we bought our building last in 2010. Even though it had been occupied, licensed, properly permitted and in use for 10 years (and used much more heavily than we would, we have 1/3 the people the prior business did), the health/sanitation inspector tried to jerk us around and insist the building's septic system wasn't adequate and we needed to tie in to the closest sewer. None of the other buildings in the entire industrial park is tied into the sewer and the closest sewer line was at the far end of the park 1/4 mile away. The cost to trench and lay pipe for 1/4 mile then tie in to sewer would have been $300k - $400k. I went back and forth with this guy for weeks. At one point I even told DH that I might have to sleep with this guy in order to save us several hundred thousand dollars; DH in typical English fashion simply raised one eyebrow and calmly told me to close my eyes and think of England. Anyway, we did eventually get it resolved, but not without some wrangling. So these guys can be petty tyrants; don't give up easily.

There are lots of things you have figured out, you're just focusing on the things that aren't working. It is interesting to talk about problems. There might be some things I have figured out. Money and success, the topics of YM, aren't two of them. Well if it makes you feel any better, I'm really fantastic with money but ironically tend to self-sabotage so don't always get to enjoy that success.

simply raised one eyebrow and calmly told me to close my eyes and think of England. LOL, Milee, not sure everyone will get the reference. ;D Chiver, the new bakery is meant to be in Belmont, a third location. I'm only peripherally involved, I do my thing in my location, it's just a bit sketchy as to what my thing is these days. I'm not sure how the whole DS thing will play out. He's a good kid. Who made a mistake. And the results were ugly. I have to admit that I wouldn't want to learn to drive and to be an inexperienced driver in the Boston area today. Luckily I learned to drive long ago and far away in a place where most accidents did and still do mostly involve a rock or a tree. But...consequensed for actions has always been a big thing in our world. So, in his senior year, he won't have his car. And will have to ride the bus, because I won't buy him another car. We still haven't worked out the money aspect of this. Originally, DS was meant to pay for insurance, and DH would technically own the car. I think that until he goes to college, DS'll give the majority of his earnings to us to "pay" for his insurance and for the car he no longer has, and in the end, we'll put that money towards what SL loans he may have. A car may just be out of his grasp for quite some time. Some of you might think that I'm being a bit too harsh, but...this is a second accident that was his fault. Both times due to inexperience/lack of attention to detail. He also recently lost 8 days of school/work/life because he wore his contacts too long and ended up with an ulcer and infection in his eye. And I'm not beating him up in RL, even though I'm venting here. He's so hard on himself, I haven't actually said much, other than to let him know that I love him and that growing up can be painful. If we were born knowing what we need to know, there'd be no need for families.

malarky - I'm glad your DS is okay and I understand your reasoning for not getting him a replacement car. FWIW, if I wanted my own car, I had to buy and managed to save $1400 for my 1st car, which lasted 1.5 years. (I was also responsible for insurance and gas. My brother had the same criteria too.) Then it started to cost more to repair then it was worth so traded it in for another car and car loan. My mom co-signed on it and never had to go to her for money. Actually, managed to pay the loan off early too!

To be fair to DS, he never asked for the car. DH and I decided that it would be good for us, because DS was picking DD up at practice frequently.
Modified for spelling errors.

Steve, get a profile going on Christian Mingle or Plenty of Fish ( dating sites ). You will probably find someone nice if you are careful and picky.

Maybe it's better for guys, but dating websites suck. Have thick skin and be prepared to be rejected, a lot. Or maybe it's just me

Apple I wouldn't reject you! Maybe you should move to Italy and be part of my harem. I need someone who is handy around the house because Goose may make my face go numb,...but he isn't a handyman that is for sure.

Malarky, glad to hear your DS is safe. Oy. Every parent's worst fear. Make sure you show him the impact his accidents are having on your insurance premiums. I'm teaching ODS to drive now. He's a good kid, and so far is cautious, but even then he's had a few moments of inattention. I keep reminding him that a car is a weapon. Teenage driving is certainly the human equivalent of pushing your chick out of the nest and hoping he/she can fly on his/her own. I'm not sure *I'm* ready. And I KNOW I'm not ready for him to ride along when his friends drive.
