I do. It is advised when you live rurally to have a firearm. We can be more than an hour away from law enforcement response and there are times where it is necessary to put down injured wildlife, etc...

I don't own guns. I am anti-gun. They are insanely dangerous for those that own them as well as those that they are meant to protect against.

I am so glad I live in the city ETA: I love animals so I am not sure I could shoot one. I guess if it was suffering I could make myself

I used to be anti-gun, then after spending a lot of time with DH's family I realized I am anti-idiots owning guns. I've watched DH on several ocassions and it impresses me how respectful he is whenever he's operating/handling a firearm.

I haven't really been around many guns and I myself have never even held one but I am okay with a responsible person having a firearm. What I have a problem with are crazy cop wannabees who have a hero complex walking around just waiting for something to happen. Those kind of people make me nervous.

Even though I don't own any guns or care to own guns doesn't mean I'm anti gun. As far as I see it if responsible people want guns they should be able to have them. I think most gun laws are pointless, if you're really determined to commit a crime with a gun, you can bypass all the laws and get a gun on black market or from a corrupt gun dealer quite easily. The problem with gun laws is criminals aren't going to get guns no matter what laws you pass, the gun laws only really affect law biding citizens. That's pretty much how I feel. I can't see how having a gun would make me any safer in my home unless I kept it loaded on the night stand which isn't an option with kids. I also have no desire to go to a range and shoot targets for fun. I don't understand the point of semi-automatics, but I know that there are law abiding citizens who just think its fun to own and shoot them. I understand the dilemma about the usefulness of a gun when you have to keep it locked away with kids in the house. For years, that 380 I had wouldn't have done me any good. I like it that I can carry, but I have a dilemma with that also. I imagine that if I turned around and someone had a gun in my face, mine would be useless. I can't go around pulling a gun on everybody that comes near me and I'm not trying to be anybody's hero, so mine mostly stays at home. It's a little different at home. My children are adults now and sometimes they live here, sometimes they don't. It would be difficult to get into my house quietly, so I'd have at least some warning. There's a lot of crime where I live, but the threats were why I bought a gun and learned how to use it. And then I discovered I like going to the range and shooting at the targets. I say that with a smile, but I know that being good at the range doesn't necessarily mean anything more than I'm good in a controlled environment.

I have a cwp (different states have different rules, if you get the "Utah license" you are licenced to carry in 38 states, I haven't been to that class, so I'm only licenced in two.)
I have a couple, not anti-gun at all, several friends and family have multiple full-auto weapons, those can be a lot of fun to shoot. DS has gone to the "Big Sandy" gun shoot twice and will probably go with his uncle again this spring.

DH and I live in a city and don't own a gun. I grew up in a rural area and grew up around guns. We had them to protect our livestock from predators (such as wolves, not people). Many people in the rural area I grew up in used guns to feed their families. At the same time, one of my friends in high school was accidentally shot (and lived) as another high school friend cleaned his hunting rifle. I am fully prepared to use a gun to protect myself and my property from animals. I am not prepared to use a gun to protect myself and my property from people. This may or may not turn me into a victim. Statistically speaking, I believe not owning a gun makes it less likely for me to be a victim. www.hsph.harvard.edu/research/hicrc/firearms-research/guns-and-death/index.html

I like guns, grew up target shooting or hunting but don't have any now. My ISO has some in my house, I traded him my guns for his waterbed when we first lived together. He sold one and kept the other so it is like I still have it. My ex bought me that one because he bought himself the other but I got them both in the divorce. I haven't shot in years, bullets cost too much so I want a 22 because they are cheap to shoot. For self defense I use a semi automatic but don't usually feel the need for self defense. When I was alone when he was long distance trucking I would keep in on the far side of the bed on the floor so if someone broke in I could roll off the bed and shoot. He promised never to come home without warning but I would have always asked who it was before shooting them dead.

We have a blast at the shooting range. Best entertainment for 25 bucks out there. Yes, bullets are spendy but I'd rather do that than go to a movie or some other activity and now that I spend more time up here than in Florida, what else is there to do? Yes, it is a controlled environment but I take other classes on how to shoot in an uncontrolled environment. I hope I never have to shoot another person but if I do, I will. I wouldn't have taken the classes and got the guns otherwise.

My DH has some, the ones I remember are: 45 Cal handgun, a 40 cal. handgun, a 17 something rifle?...and probaly 3-4 more I don't remember.
I did receive some threats while serving on our local HOA, so when that was going on, if he was working in his woodshop, a loaded .45 was laying in plain sight. We did not drive his 2011 yellow Corvette when it had to be parked somewhere, and I had a police escort for a few weeks going in and out of the HOA main office for meetings.
Anyone want to ask me what I think of this place I live?? I guess an HOA that has assest value of $200M causes some real weirdos to come out from under their rock.
I don't like the guns, but overall I'm happy he does and is not afraid to use them. He also wants to take the carry class.

I thought of this thread last night. I was watching the news & they were talking about a home invasion & then showed a picture of a house about 8 doors down. I still don't want a gun as it wouldn't help with the kids . Ex knows the people living there & they were almost certainly targeted for a reason & not at random.

Statistically, you are far more likely to be injured with your own gun than to use it to protect yourself. As for the home invasion, that's generally the case around here; they're not usually random, they're people involved with and known to the criminals. The year before we left Phoenix, the police had done an analysis of murders over the past several years and found that approximately 70% of the people murdered were in high-risk professions, such as drug dealers and prostitutes. I don't think - for obvious reasons, it sounds too much like victim blaming - that they examined how many were murdered by an abusive spouse that had a history of violence, but I'd be willing to bet it's another good chunk of the remainder. In other words, random murders were very rare. Then again, if I had a specific threat against myself or my family or if I lived or worked in an area that had a high rate of violence, I'd consider the issue again. As it is, I'm just going with the odds and thinking we're better off without loaded guns readily available in the house.

Mid, I got it. ;D
Technically, I own a 380 and a .22 rifle. I got them upon my father's death this past February. However, they are with my step-son because we don't have a gun safe and we still have two kids at home. My oldest DD--age 14--knows the basics because my father taught her also.
I don't mind guns or people who like guns. I know how to use them because my father taught me. I don't have a need for them because I don't hunt and we live in a mostly safe area.

Well, my brother is definitely ready for the zombie apocalypse. When my family gets together, we all love to go shooting. He wants me to get my cc license and get a handgun for myself. Personally, I want a pump action shotgun. Probably wouldn't ever need to load it. Everyone knows what that pump action sounds like.

I hate guns. DH is a police officer and a hunter, so we have a small arsenal. Actually, I couldn't even tell you exactly what kinds of guns he has or exactly how many. They are safely locked away.
We do have a rule now that if a new gun comes in, an old one goes out. This is largely for financial reasons. Those things are expensive. The one exception is if he's required to purchase it for work. He's on the SWAT team in addition to his municipal job. For SWAT they buy their own weapons and equipment, but we can deduct it from our taxes.

When I was five, my father shot himself with a shotgun in the bathroom. So I guess you could say guns have always been a part of my life.
My ex always had a shotgun. He kept it under the bed. But the ammunition was in his sock drawer. It was never loaded, but I still wouldn't let the kids in the bedroom.
DH has a pistol. It's locked in some box at the top of the bathroom cabinet. He did ask me before buying it, and I was ok with it. But he can't ask me to learn how to shoot.
I've sometimes wondered what I'm supposed to do with this gun if something happens to him first. I mean, it is registered to a specific owner, right? And I'm not that owner. So would I be breaking the law to do nothing? How can you sell it if they are supposed to register it? I think I've decided to take it to the local police station and say, "Here!"
DH says I worry about the oddest stuff. You think?

I've just finished photographing a group of items from DH's family for possible loan or gift to a museum. We have a 1875 Colt D A 41. DH's family is probably the original owner. Don't think we're able to find ammo though! I'm a suburban kid and my folks were from NY City. Therefore I didn't grow up around guns. Until I worked for the Transit Agency I never felt the need for one. But there are some creepy/scary folks who camp along the railroad tracks even in urban areas. I could see why some folks carry. Living in metro Phoenix, AZ had me rolling my eyes at all the cowboy wanna bes. There is no requirement for a gun permit unless you want a concealed weapon. When I first saw the giant "No Weapons" sign at our town hall I could visualize the scene going through airport security in the film "The Naked Gun" with the ever growing arsenal.

Not sure what the laws are in your state, but in Oregon you don't have to register pistols, shotguns, rifles, etc. You do have to register full-auto weapons, but those are more heavily regulated. You can buy guns off the internet, yard sales, private sales, whatever. You only even have to fill out any paperwork unless you're buying at a show or from a dealer.

I'd like to think I'm indifferent to guns because I know plenty of people who have them and if I don't see them, then I don't care, but if DF brought one home he knows his ass would be out on the street. So, I guess I'm anti gun in my house. We're city people. We don't hunt, we don't fear some random invader on a desolate road, the zombies haven't risen yet. We're cool. ;D
