Just thought a dedicated Oil & Nat Gas thread might be appropriate for investment discussion. This important subject seems to play into our economy heavily at times and may play a heavier role in coming years. So will open the subject and hope it proves of interest to our posters.

Mid-East and North African energy producers intend to invest $740B on projects over the next five years, led by Saudi Arabia with $165B and UAE with $107B. High crude prices are allowing the countries to restart schemes that they delayed because of the financial crisis.

MLPs as a group remain relatively undervalued and several names are attractively priced, Credit Suisse says, suggesting investors pursue a conservative posture of focusing on names with large asset footprints, diverse cash flows and limited direct commodity price exposure. The firm's favorites: PAA, MMP, EEP, EPD, GEL, KMR, KMP, KMI.

Having owned a MLP in the past I would say I would have been better off with a ETF. It can be a little tricky keeping up with them for non-professionals such as myself.

The True benefit of the ETF's tracking the MLP's is - Indirect exposure & No K-1's. Correlation actually kinda sucks, but this is an affect of the Mathematical Formula's used to derive the Tracking. Then again this is true of Most ETF's. It is what it is though.

I don't think anyone said anything Derisive about MLP's or K-1's - Other than that they can be a bit tricky to deal with, which is not really Derisive or Derogatory.

BP nears oil-spill settlement with DOJ. BP (BP) and the Justice Department are close to a deal to resolve the company's civil and criminal liabilities arising from 2010's Deepwater Horizon spill, the WSJ reports. However, the sides are still about $6B apart on a final figure, with BP concerned that an amount that's too big could imply negligence, thus encouraging plaintiffs with pending lawsuits to seek higher damages.
