10 was a limited time offer, you didn't jump on it fast enough. It's going down to 5.5 in a few minutes. What are you going to do, get me fired? Yeah... you're nuclear option just became a BB gun.

OMG Dark I am so sorry! I hope that you totally come out on top of this situation!
This is exactly the sort of scenario that some of us feared when we encouraged you to get your degree. I know you're incredibly smart and extremely competent, but sometimes (like when you're looking for a new job) that piece of paper can or does indeed matter.
Again, best of luck to you! Get that resumé out there ASAP. Be proactive, don't wait to find out what happens. By the time you apply for or interview for a new job, the dust will have probably settled, and you'll know. But, don't sit around waiting.
I'm amazed there's no severance pay, but what do I know?! If there had been, I'd encourage you to get that degree, if the worst-case scenario does happen and you do get laid off.
And Loop certainly needs to dust her resume off as well. Wasn't she up for a job starting in October?!
You have a ton of experience but no degree. Loop has a degree but (as far as I know) no experience. You both need some of what you don't have. Your girls are getting older, maybe it's time to do this now. Trust me, it won't be easier to do it in 5 or 10 years.
As always, best of luck to you! I truly hope that this works out in your favor!

That really does suck. The worst part was not telling you in person. I hope you land the new or old job that you want.

Sorry to hear it and hopefully everything works out for the best. Makes me think how bad I need to get an updated resume put together for the just in case scenario.

The degree wouldn't have mattered this time... well in the sense that even going full time I wouldn't have it yet. This one I'm going to have to get through on charisma, good looks (in my mind), and the experience I've got.

The fact that you already have a security clearance won't hurt, either.

And there's that. But I like to tell myself my charisma and good looks are the reason I'm employed.

Good luck Dark. You might want to think about saving some cash, in case you have to weather hopefully short period of unemployment. Always best to hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

Pfft - You wouldn't want them to ruin a perfectly good Friday with that sort of news would You? Monday is already a downer day.
Best of Luck with the company that got the award. Dusting off the resume and the suits are great thoughts, just in case the new guys make you go through a formal interview process. You want to make sure to maximize the value they see in you!!
How about if this week's name becomes "INDISPENSABLE DARK" just to make sure the Karma Gods are looking at you in the right light!!
Keep in mind that it is always easier to find a job when you have one, so consider any offer from the new company carefully. If you have to accept a pay reduction, make sure that you get something of value in trade for it - 35 hour work week, more vacation, professional certification commitment (for them to pay), professional society membership (good for networking your next job!), supreme executive power . .. yah know.

Wishes you the best, things always happen for reason and for better. To, loop. Everything will be alright! mean time, support each other with love.

And there's that. But I like to tell myself my charisma and good looks are the reason I'm employed. Oh, I'm sure you're right, but just in case the powers that be are impervious to your various charms, you have the clearance as your trump card. Win-win!

Total bummer, Dark. Way to kill the leftover weekend buzz. On the bright side, aren't you glad you didn't co-sign your brother's car loan?

I don't know. Ideally, none. Realistically... we'll see what other options I can find. I'm still relatively early in my career, and I'm not highly compensated for my industry. Swallowing any pay cut at this point is going to hurt. Nope. If we haven't moved to the new company or found something else by the end of the transition period we'll be laid off, and should be eligible for unemployment, but that's it. I haven't looked at the California unemployment site in a while, but I think the max benefit is $400 a week. That won't even cover my mortgage. But it's enough for beer, right?
