So, supposedly I already have an offer letter, but they may have sent it to the wrong email address. I sent an email to the transition manager who's forwarding it to somebody in HR so they can resend the letter.

Very interesting that the agency is already asking about contesting the award. Depending on what state the transition is in, contesting the award could result in an automatic contract extension of the current contractor. Sometimes companies use this trick to hang on for just a few more months when they've already lost a contract.

Yeah, all signs are pointing to this being a pretty rough transition, and potentially a rough year or two for the companies that won this thing. The more I talk to them the more it seems that they had very little idea just what they were bidding on. I still don't think they understand the scope of work they're taking on, and it's all theirs in 24 days.
Meanwhile, still nothing from Company X HR, and it's after 5 on the east coast so I probably won't hear anything today. These people are friggin killing me. Like literally taking years off my life with the stress and uncertainty right now.

Jeez that sucks. How hard is it to send an email containing a letter that is already written.
Fingers crossed for you.

Right?! Supposedly they already sent it to me once, just at the wrong address. Go to your damn sent items, find the one to me, and forward it to my correct address. Done. It shouldn't take more than a couple minutes.

If they can't get that right, how much other crap are they going to screw up for you in the next couple of years? Maybe you should move to Virginia

Offer was in my inbox this morning. They're matching my salary. I'll have to dig through the benefit info to see how I'll come out after insurance and stuff, but it's probably pretty similar to what I had before. They even use the same insurance company, so I can keep all my doctors.
The position is titled kind of weird though. I'll be a data center lead. However, I'm the only guy at this site that got an offer from the larger company. The others got offers from the smaller company. So either I'm supervising people at a different company, or I'm leading myself. I'm hoping for the latter. I hate writing employee reviews.

Would you be able to work from home then, if you lead yourself?

The man takes a pretty dim view on working from home. There are a couple of agencies that allow it, but the vast majority don't. This contract is with an agency in that latter group.

And the screwy part for my group is we are entrusted to go do audits all the time. No managers travel if they can avoid it.

No, not really. Lets say we enter another recession. We'll say it's even worse than the last one. I'd rather be in my industry and my niche than any other job out there. With the possible exception of gun or liquor store owner. As jobs go, this is about as safe as you can get. This industry doesn't go away unless government agencies stop using computers, and it only gets outsourced if the government starts trusting unknown foreign nationals with top secret information. I don't see either happening any time soon.
I could still lose my job obviously, but the job itself isn't going away. In other industries you can lose your job, and in a lot of cases the job itself can also go away.
