Hello Ladies. I took a few months off from hounding. I quit my job and knew I was moving so I lived off the stockpile for a few months to save money and have less to move. Now I am in a beautiful new house with lots of room to hound so I'm going to start again. I did a small CVS trip this week to restock shampoo and air fresheners and get back into the swing. I have missed you all. Nice to see you here again! Congrats on the new digs!

RITE AID AND WAGs SHOPPERSFor those of you who are shopping at WAGs and Rite Aid, I'd like to hear what you think of the changes that each has recently made. Have you noticed that your OOP is more or is it about the same? TIA Hi. Just catching up...I signed up for the WAG's card a while ago. I don't shop them often, but, what helps us so far is DH signed up for Walking with Walgreens. It gives 10 rewards points for each mile. I linked his walking with the card and have 160 points for He and Sierra taking walks. Too bad it isn't retroactive. They go for two mile walks each day, and he's superb on logging their miles. From reading their brochure, I'm not sure I'm happy with how you can use the rewards...I read somewhere you can't use them on Dairy. I was looking forward to free milk. But, time will tell... Unless I want a road trip, no Rite Aid. I'm finding it tough to roll EB's at CVS. I have $7.00 that I refreshed a couple of weeks ago, and they expire 10/23. Over the next couple of weeks, I'm not seeing much that we need and no rainchecks on hand. So, I'm working on what I want to do. I have an e-mailed $5.off $30 also... Any suggestions? On another note, I did write to Blue Diamond for Almond Milk Coupons. (DH loves the stuff). They were really generous with providing coupons... Three $1.00 off one, Two $.75 off two...Now for a really good sale.

beachbum: Are you out of Stayfree or other like products? They are free at the drug chains quite often. We have some. I have seen free panty liners, but not any true free maxi pads, at CVS in a long while. I don't have a rite aid or wags close by. I also use the cash method of deciding if something is free. For me it rarely works out to be free using the cash method. I also have to pay sales tax on coupons at CVS. At 7% it adds up fast. At Shoprite I don't have to pay sales tax on the coupons, so free after coupons really means zero OOP. My DD is a teen so maybe she goes through more of them that the average adult also. Teens seem to go through more ever everthing now that I think of it. Tell me about it. My current rate is 8.5%. It used to be 9.5%, but it dropped 1% a while back because the measure for that 1% extra tax expired. It is a deal killer for a lot of things for me. I really have to take it into consideration when doing most deals and probably is why I'm so obsessed with sticking with the larger MMs and not rolling on stuff we don't need. In the old days with WAGs, we were using ESR money (rebate money loaded to a gift card) to pay our OOP (on RR deals) including any sales tax incurred. For a couple of years at CVS, they would allow you to use EBs to cover your sales tax. I could usually get my OOP under $.50. Now, I always have to pay the sales tax. It's fine for items that we'll use and need; but unless an item is a huge MM, if we won't use it, I won't buy it. BTW, I never had a teenage daughter, but it makes A LOT of sense. Hopefully someone will have the Qs that you need.

I've asked a couple of cashiers if we would be able to use the $5/1 CRTs in the future even though they are expired and both times was told absolutely, yes. I thought of you when this happened. I had one of the $5/1 CRTs for the Centrum Flavor Burst, but it was close to expiring and they didn't have any in stock. I asked the Store Mgr about it and she said she'd honor the CRT after it expired. She made a note on it for me. I'd never asked about that before and was so pleased that she was willing to do it for me. Nice lady. Since then I usually say hi and chat for a moment or two when I come into that particular CVS. A few kind words go a long way. I always make sure to say thanks and let them know that it means a lot to me as a customer to be given a consideration. I'm sure it's rare for them to get thanks. Well, my store that had been EXTREMELY lenient in the past with expireds, told me that I couldn't use it per the directions from regional. I explained to her that accepting them, is corporate policy, as long as you have the CRTs and a rain check. She's looking into it. I think this store was probably waaaay too lenient with taking expired CRTs and EBs and got slapped on the hand and now they've done a complete 180. That's okay. I know that she'll "get the memo" and I'll be able to use them.

I actually hate the way CVS calculates sales tax. they do it in such a way that I truthfully can't even figure out how they do it. What I can figure out is done in such a way to make peolpe pay the most sales tax possible. Shoprite only charges sales tax on the amount after all discounts/sales and coupons. It is just so much better for me! CVS seems to charge sales tax on what they consider their "regular" prices for things. Once they charged me 0.25 cents sales tax on a bottle of soda. I still can't figure out how they decided on that one. Even when CVS brought back the gift card deals they didn't have them in NJ. It is real tough to find a way to not pay sales tax these days. The good part of my DD though is that she is pretty flexible about what she uses. The only shampoo that she really hates is Pantene silicone/volume kinds. Naturally the one that is most apt to be free and have crap loads left on the shelf. ;D Since I started doing the GC she has gotten a taste of nicer products actually. In some ways trying to save money using coupons has actually made her higher maint.

Over the next couple of weeks, I'm not seeing much that we need and no rainchecks on hand. So, I'm working on what I want to do. I have an e-mailed $5.off $30 also... Any suggestions? Nope. I'm having the same problem and it has been happening for a couple of months now, BUT I have been able to continue rolling because right when I think I'm going to have to "get out", a deal has come along that pushes me along. Last week it was the Gillette razors. This week it is the Buy $30 P&G/Get a $10EB. They keep giving me those $10/$50s and they have helped turn the deals into MMs or no loss in EBs after doing the deal. CVS is definitely not the steady flow of deals and MMs that it used to be. I started seeing a "change" in 2011 and things at CVS have very, very slowly gone downhill since then. The deals are not as good and the $/$$ have not been as plentiful. In addition, we have seen more and more manufacturers place quantity restrictions on their coupons. I know that there have been multiple times when I have seemed like a Debbie Downer here, warning of the times when the deals would decline; but I knew in my heart that the "gravy train" of freebies could not last forever. My motto: Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

I know in California that all tax is calculated pre-coupon (unless it is unprepared food, then that is tax free) and so it really makes an awesome deal look kinda crappy when they add that 8% + tax on it

WOW, I just CLEANED UP tonight! Using two cards, I ran out at 9pm to do the Pantene deal. My store doesn't mind if I do multiple tx as long as its at the end of the sale. And I still made sure to not clean out any one kind. Here's what I did: 4 Shampoo 4 Hairspray - $4/20, 4 BOGO coupons Paid $.04, got back $4 EB (Pantene deal, I guess its next week. Got $4 on the first, $3 on the 2nd). And then they force-printed the $10. I repeated this four times (twice on each card). One tx was different for some reason, and I ended up paying $0.00 for that one. So for $.12 OOP, I got $169.96 worth of products (32 Pantene items). I didn't spend any ECB, but I ended up with $54 more than when I started This is one of those memorable hounding outings. I got to literally spend my pennies and get items that we will use! The Pantene will be used as hand soap & body wash (or shampoo, LOL). And DH will be happy about the hairspray.

I was in the Entenmanns’s outlet store last Thur. WOW has it changed. Very little (only donuts) in sweets. Just bread & roll items. Sara Lee sweet stuff outlet store closed over a month ago. I will NOT pay retail so sweets are going to be VERY rare here.
Wouldn’t you know it? I stocked up on Aldi chicken broth in Aug for $1.49/32 oz pkg. It is currently on price reduction for 0.99.
I think nearly all my EB are expired except the most recent quarterly - $1. Have to see what my fav store mgr does. Local store ‘warned me’ last week.

My understanding is no. It can't hurt to take the insert coupon with you. The worst thing that can happen is that it will be rejected.

This is one of those memorable hounding outings. One of the most memorable for me was when mawmaw posted a scenariol using a $/$$, a bogo sale on Nature Made vitamins, and a $10EB deal on the Cottonelle 20-pk (double roll). After all coupons were used, we were making a profit in EBs on the deal due to the overage received by using (2) $5/1 IPs for the Nature Made. It really sticks out for me, because at the time, many of the GC gals were able to stockpile 4-pks (of Angel Soft, I believe) for free after doubles; but I don't have doubles, so free TP was unheard of for me. Using "a couple" of cards, I was able to stockpile (12) 20 count double rolls of the Cottonelle. Every time I see a package of Cottonelle, I think of mawmaw.

The Pantene will be used as hand soap & body wash (or shampoo, LOL). What is it with the shampoo deals at CVS this year? It seemed like we went months without many good shampoo deals and in the last (6) months, there have been several. I "had" a designated space for shampoo. When it was full, I stopped buying or donated to stockpile preferred brands for free. But after my liquid hand soap stockpile starting running low, I decided to substitute shampoo as a double agent. Finding that it worked great (and no one in my household complained), I have doubled my allowable space to store shampoo. The fact that there had been a "shampoo drought", if you will, made me take notice. Shampoo/conditioner also works great in place of shave cream when shaving your legs in the shower. I still have a little room left to store more if there is another sale. ;D

I am allowing myself BF to jump into drugstores temporarily.

I'm not sure that I would have put it together. Chalk up another good deal due to great networking on this board.

I love memorable deals There was a good detergent sale awhile back (at least two years ago), and I still probably have another year's worth. I did find a homemade laundry detergent recipe using liquid soap, so if it comes down to it I guess my shampoo could double as laundry soap If only I could make up some Pantene soup....we would be set!

Sent DH out for me this AM to pick up a paper, and what did he find? someone took out ALL of their coupons and flyers and left them on the ground next to the newspaper stand! He promptly picked them up and put them inside the paper he was buying for me I have taught him well. I'm not sure if anyone else got this, but I had no CVS ad this week. Instead I had a 1 page flyer with a 20% off coupon on top good until Tuesday. Without the ad though, I'm not sure what sales to put together! I guess I'll just look it up online and see what I can do. Have a great hounding week! ;D

I finally got one of those "extraordinary savings" flyers! There was a whole bunch sitting by the cashier. I asked if I could have one and he gave me one. I have been asking at the pharmacy counter but they give me looks like I have two heads

Sam: What deal is that? I thought Pantene was only giving $1 EB this week and that is all I got. Is there something else? I know last month Pantene/Herbal Essences was the monthly deal and was giving $5/15 so I maxed that out but I didn't think there was anything right now. How did you end up with 54 EB?

HOUND ALERT: $1/1 Dr. Pepper (10/7 SS) I could REALLY use at least (3) of these. If anyone has them to spare, I would GREATLY appreciate it. I can't offer up my first born son AGAIN , but I do have insert Qs to trade. ;D

This is a good one to use on items that rarely go on sale (with EB) and if you have excess EBs to burn. HTH

This is not going to be a good week. I think my furnace has died and since the a/c is just as old (1989) both will probably need to be replaced.
Can you say $5000?
