I cleaned out a pile of boxes hiding in my grandma house yesterday. I know I have said before that my late DH kept nearly everything over the years... After having cleaned, I can honestly say that we both kept nearly everything we have ever owned, or so it seemed. As a result of the clean out, I wondered what other "treasures" and odd things people have found cleaning? Yesterday I found an original Walkman with the headphones and two of those old giant cell phones from back when I worked in IT. I also found this amazingly pretty decanter that I forgot I had. I think I bought it once to sell on eBay, back when it first started. I found my "welcome to Kaiser" package, from when I started back in 1990!.... And I found typing paper with carbon. No typewriter, but I could make multiple copies. The kids thought the idea of that process was hilarious, since they have always been around the "print" option. We also found a vase that I thought had been broken long ago and tons of weird, random crap. Who keeps, and moves, a bald eagle candle statue? I don't even remember having it, or where on earth the ugly thing came from, but we can use it during storm season when the power goes out... So, what odd thing do you own or have you found cleaning things out? Wish I could report I found something very valuable, but mostly just memories, some great photos, and lots of trash and donations.

Shasta, I wish I could find the video of me jumping out of a plane. Unfortunately in the 5-6 moves since that happened, it has gotten lost. I always find stamps when unpacking after the Army moves us. Why do I still have 32 cent stamps? Who remembers 32 cent stamps??? (I actually remember, vaguely, 25 cent stamps. God, I feel old) I make it my mission now to only purchase forever stamps. I haven't found a copy of the Constitution, or gold bars that I forgot I bought, yet, though!

Pretty sure none of our crap has any value, except sentimental. I personally don't like to hang on to stuff, so I only have a few boxes of odds and ends. However when I helped my mom downsize from her house to a townhome she had unbelievable amounts of crap. Mostly kitchen gadgets that she never used and never WOULD use because she never liked to cook much, and cooked even less as she got older. Things like a metal horn that you could set on a cook sheet, wrap puff pastry around and bake to make cream cakes.
We tried to talk her into getting rid of some of that stuff she would never use and only hang on to practical kitchen stuff (like silverware) but she couldn't bare to do it, so to find a regular fork in her drawer you had to sift through the escargot forks, fondue forks and children's silverware sets (even though her youngest grandchild is 10 years old).

While not a find in an attic, my favorite Antique Roadshow appraisal was an unassuming small card table a woman bought at a church or garage sale for $25. It was appraised for around $250,000. The owner decided to put it up for auction and it sold for $450,000.
Not too shabby for a little table.
