Since we moved to this new board, how about we all share a bit about ourselves and what we do for a living.
I'll start - I am a caregiver to my disabled DH who is on home dialysis. I also work as a freelance non-fiction/technical writer. I'm always looking for suggestions on where to market my skills to help pick-up more clients.
We live in Northern CA with our 2 dogs, 4 cats, 10 chickens and 2 roosters.
:)Donna

I'm a health inspector for a local board of health, living on the coast of MA with my DF and our awesome cat. I'm also a huge nerd and I like yoga, knitting, hiking and photography among other things. I'm starting grad school next year for environmental science hopefully. (I hope no one on here knows me IRL, because that description totally gives me away if so )

Since I am a long time lurker, I will use this this thread to introduce myself. I am a mother to 5 and 3 year old girls, married, living in San Diego. I am in finance/sales. My job title is Financial Sales Manager, and that includes selling equipment leasing to two specific copier companies, negotiating leasing terms and conditions, pricing deals, training on the benefits of leasing, assisting with writing lease paperwork, assist sales representatives in closing deals and helping obtain credit approval for the customers wishing to lease equipment. I love my job and every day I learn something new. I have also learned a lot from the MSN money boards as well, so I followed everyone over here.

Great topic - I work as an independent contractor for a company in Florida, live in Minnesota, travel frequently. Have 3 dogs, 1 cat who happened to wander in. I agree with cael - everyone I know IRL would know who I am! I sell retail management software, have the greatest boss and colleagues. Love hanging out at our cabin, water-and-snow-skiing, Travel LOTS! Glad to be here...

Hi, I'm Molly. I live in California with my wonderful DH (he's a military pilot) and a house-full of rescued cats. I used to be a trial attorney (specializing in complex torts and civil rights lawsuits), but am now I am a happy housewife/animal rescuer. My interests include photography, travel, cycling, reading, gardening, and eating! (Wait, does eating count as a hobby?)

Hi, I'm Mercee, I live in WI with my husband, 3 kids, a dog & 2 outdoor cats. Hubby's been at his job nearly 20 yrs - supervisor at a plastics manufacturer. I've been at my job nearly 8 yrs, though it's changed from tax to working in cash. Hobbies include riding motorcycle (as a passenger - hubby is the real rider), camping, watching movies, snuggling with hubby &/or the littlest one, 4wheeling around the yard, you know, the usual things. I was a lurker at MSN, posting only a few times. Now I've jumped into the grocery challenge with the WIRs & am loving it. Am trying to jump into more threads throughout the board, but life gets in the way. I've learned lots from you wonderful people (a bit too late in some cases) & am looking forward to reading & learning for many years to come.

Hi everyone, I'm a 29 yr old Canadian woman from Ontario, married to a wonderful man for coming up on 2 yrs now, although we've been together for almost 10 yrs. I am currently unemployed - I left the workforce by choice last year in July so I could return to College full time to finish my diploma. In December 2010, just as I was finishing up at school, I was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer So right now, I've put off going back to work, and I'm battling with the cancer, although it hasn't been too difficult of a fight so far - I'm winning hands down ...I had surgery last week (total thyroidectomy) and I'm just recovering now, and awaiting radiation therapy in a few weeks. I hope to be back to work by springtime. My diploma and all my work experience is in Accounting & Finance, so I hope to get a job in that field when I rejoin the working world.

I'm 45 and live in SE Kansas. DH and I have a small accounting practice. He is a CPA and I am a bookkeeper who specializes in payroll. We have an 11 year ond son and live in the country on 40 acres. Love to read and the water. We put in a pool a few years ago and it has been the best money ever spent. 95% of all vacations we take are cruises and we have been on about 20. I'm mainly a lurker as I seem to kill every thread I post on

bookcrazychick -- I am posting this to ensure that you're not last I'm Caddy; I turned 30 last week. I'm buying my first house this year (inspection this afternoon). I try to keep up with messageboards related to grocery store couponing, because it's an area where I'm not too frugal and it's hard to stay motivated to be careful with costs when you like to eat whatever you feel like that day. I never had to be frugal because I've lived in cheap apts the past several years. I'm an Analyst at an energy company; I do economic modeling, forecasting, hedging/risk management, etc.

I'm 32 and live in central MA. I'm married (7 years) with one son, 4-1/2, who is autistic. I work in the envelope industry, although I'm trying to get out since I can see where it's headed. We bought our first house 2 years ago and are trying for #2. I enjoy studying: world/global economics and sociology, cognitive science, anthropology, and spirituality. I also garden and practice yoga in my free time.

Hey y'all. I'm currently living in Europe (my husband is active duty army). I graduated college with a BA in English from Duke University in 2004. Since then I've worked as a paralegal, property manager, and currently as a manager for a US based nonprofit. I've been met DH in 04 and have been married since 06. I am 29 with no kids yet, but two wonderful dogs.

I'll jump on this one I guess....I used to post more frequently, but then realized how harsh these boards were, so now I just lurk and laugh at everyone else the regulars bash on.
I'm 30, live in Norcal, work for an engineering firm and just bought my first house in 2009. No kids, no husband or boyfriend, just me and my infinite freedom! Oh and my cat, I'd say her name but its not appropriate, even though it isn't dirty....technically. I'm sure you can figure out what it is.
I'm debating going back to school this summer to obtain a BA in Business Finance. I'm having trouble getting motivated even though my work will pay for most of it. Its so much easier to come home after work and sit on the couch drinking wine, that it is to go sit in a classroom for 3 hours listening to a monotoned nerd in a tweed jacket (no offense to the professors out there...tweed is hot!)

I sooo hear that. I've been "applying to grad school" for a year and a half now. I like the subject matter, am looking forward to the career paths it could open up to me, but I am absolutely not looking forward to having to do homework and go to classes. I was ecstatic when I finished undergrad and realized I could do whatever I wanted with my free time! I have several friends who would love to be "lifelong students".... I have no idea what's wrong with them (not to mention, one of them works at a daycare, has a master's degree she paid $40k+ for, and wants a doctorate. There are many levels of "what is wrong with you?!" there, lol)

I can't remember if I posted on the earlier thread and am too lazy to look it up.
I'm 58 and work as a property-casualty actuary. Married to my wonderful second husband since 2003, mother of a 26-year old son who also works in insurance and just bought his first house. DH and I are homebodies with simple tastes most of the time, but once a year we go to Europe and live it up (with help from hotel and airline loyalty programs). DH is retired except for some freelance work.
We live in a LCOL area and I'm blessed with a good job, so getting by on less than we take in and saving for retirement is pretty easy for us. DH was an English major in college so I manage the finances and investments- that arrangement makes both of us happy!

Hurley -- do you have an engineering degree? BS Engineering + MBA/Finance is a good combo. And if you get tuition reimbursement, you should go for it... even if it is tweedy. I'm starting my MS Finance this fall, so I'll be in 3-hr long night school sessions for a while.

Pretty sure I have done this once before, but I'm trying to upgrade my member status 35. Married with 7 & 9 year old children. BS in B.S. I mean, BS in biology. MBA with entrepreneurial focus. Production manager at a manufacturing plant in the deep south. Taekwondo black belt and tournament competitor. Single income family, my wife (former engineer) became a domestic engineer 9 years ago. Looking to get a break from work soon, while I still have my sanity. Love to travel...and punch things.

I'm an environmental consultant living in central Michigan specializing in wetlands and threatened/endangered species. I provide technical advise for everyone from individual landowners, to large industrial clients and have been doing so for almost 20 years. I spend about half the year crawling through the brush, and the rest of the time in the office. I am married (17 years) with two boys (10 & 13), and my wife is a special education teacher. I collect old tractors and love to go to Disney World.

I am a retired Medical Imaging Director and a nerdy type. I now substitute teach on a flexible schedule. My DH of 40 years passed on this past summer and I am trying to learn all of the things he did around the house. Mourning sucks, but there's nothing to do about it other than to do it.
I started a blog in Novemebr to help young people who are interested in a frugal lifestyle. It's where my heart is now. It is doing extremely well and keeps me out of trouble.
I was approached to re enter the Imaging world, but politely declined. My life is balanced at this time and I could see me getting sucked into the fast paced technology world. One could loose themselves to the job.

I am 40, married with a 6 and 4 year old and moved from Boston area to chapel hill, NC about 5 months ago (enjoying the 50 degree weather as opposed to that walloping the Northeast is getting). I am 50% owner of a small cap investment firm that is based in Boston...Love finances but never like to talk about stocks, that's why I lurk here and not the investment boards.
I have an MBA from Cornell and if someone is worried about not getting their drinks in b/c of a masters getting in the way let me tell you different. Grad school is the nuttiest party of them all.

We recently moved to CA when hubby was stationed here. He is currently deployed and I stay home with our three/four children ages 15 through 7 (the oldest is only home during school breaks) and the cat. I have a degree in Geology, another one in Finance and put them to use by volunteering in our children's schools supporting science and personal finance classes/workshops/projects. I originally came to the US as a foreign exchange student in the mid-80ies, met hubby in HS and got married 5 years later.

Hurley -- do you have an engineering degree? Read more: notmsnmoney.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=finance&action=display&thread=2680#ixzz1Ck1OiPBvNope, I do marketing and admin. I just lucked out getting hired here. Thats why I feel like I should be going back to school now, while I can have it paid for, since I will be screwed trying to get a job if I am ever laid off. Everyone I know who does what I do, now has a degree. It wasn't required 8 years ago, when I first started doing admin/marketing work.
