The school issued us Ipads. I have Itunes on my home computer, but I buy most of my music on Amazon so storage is free on the Kindle Fire.
I paid $24.99 a year to do the match thing on Itunes. They basically match and upload what's on my computer.
But I can't even figure out how to play anything on the Ipad. There is a built-in Itunes app, but it's the store. I can't get it to go to my stuff.
Does anyone want to tell me what to do, or should I wait until I get to school on Monday and ask the kids. Last week they taught me how to turn my go-phone on so I'm afraid they may start charging me for their expertise.
Thanks!

Have you synced your iPad with your computer to transfer the music to it? If not, nothing will be on it to listen to. Once it's synced and your music is there, there is a "music" or "ipod" icon on the bottom of your main screen.

I wish I could help you! All I know is that when I plug my iPhone into my computer, the stuff (emails and photos) gets updated.
At my youngest son's school (he's in 9th grade) they have Smartboards, they have had them for years. They are installing them in my school (business school, university level) this year.
The techie who was installing them was testing them out, I was watching him, amazed! He said, too bad that nobody will actually use them, most of the teachers are way too scared.
So I'm thinking if we 50+ "old ladies" could do it, we'd be way ahead of the game!
This said, tomorrow is Sunday. Maybe ask a grandchild instead?! LOL

Lol, Debt. I sent an email to the techie at school, and he told me the answer. So if anyone else wants to know . . . Tap the homescreen twice. That brings up all your apps that are open. Scroll to the left, and the Itune Orange one is the one you want. Now why there isn't an orange Itune icon without doing that, I don't know. But that's fine. I just want to annoy the kids on Monday with the Beatles' early work. I teach Brit Lit.

Loving that you are teaching the kids about the Beatles early music. Best music. Ever. Maybe I can get music on my iPad now. ;D

My Itune icon was showing on mine to begin with ?? Not sure why yours wasn't, unless that was something the school 'hid' ?? I don't think you can remove it.
I do have an ipad 2 though... ? Do you have a 3?

And I think it's great that you are one step ahead of your students! I know it's really easy and tempting to ask them for that sort of help, but kudos to you for not needing to!

Oped, it probably does have something to do with the school hiding it. We were told to ask the kids to limit their music to 250 songs so I think they are afraid they will eat up the memory with music, videos, etc. Making it more difficult to play music is one solution.
It definitely didn't show up on my Ipad until he told me to touch the home button twice and scroll backwards to the orange Itunes icon. I spent at least an hour on here reading everything I could to find it. So they must want the kids not to find it.
Ours are Ipad 2.

But that double click thing is how you are supposed to close open programs. You double click the start and then you hold down on the buttom until you get the X symbols and can power them down. You need to close them every so often so stuff isn't running, and you need to shut the pad down... what happens then? When it isn't open and running? How do you access it then?
Maybe i'm misunderstanding.

Ok, you don't hold it down until you get the x symbols. This is just a quick double click and then go to the stuff on the left.
I really don't understand if this is an open App, why it doesn't appear on my screen. But remember, these Ipads belong to the school. There is good reason to think they have reconfigured stuff to their needs. Although I titled my email to him "I am missing the obvious," the techie didn't respond with "Yes, you are." (And he would have, trust me.) There is something different going on with their Itunes.
I spent an hour trying to figure this out online, watching videos on Apple's site, etc. It just wasn't there until the techie told me how to access it.
You probably aren't misunderstanding. We probably have very unique Ipads. Lol.

Ok. But if you double click. And then hold your finger down on one of the app buttons, do you get the x ?

Oped...you are not misunderstanding! The double click shows you what's in use. You hold it to get the x's so you can close them. Btw... An alternative to the double click is to drag four fingers up your screen, and it will show you the same thing. Anyway...schools give out ipads now?

Not "give out." We "issued" them. It is only for our seniors until January. Then the juniors will get them. The freshmen and sophomores will get them next yeaer.
The school really came up with a great idea . . . let the kids buy them at the end. Yes, it isn't that great this year, but they will still probably be two updates away (they got Ipads 2). But when the freshmen get theirs and subsequent classes, every four years they can recover some $$$ to help update them. I thought that was really clever.
The kids had to buy insurance policies ($35) unless their parents were willing to sign to pay the full price if they were lost or stolen. Out of 600 kids, there was a two-page landscape list of "exceptions" to the insurance policy. Some of those wanted insurance but hadn't paid, some of those refused insurance, and some of those already had their own Ipads. So most of the parents bought the insurance.

Buy them after 4 years? I'm guessing it won't be all that many, unless the price is rather low...

The prices will probably be cheap plus this will be a device they already "know."
But that is four years from now so who knows how it will work. I just thought it was clever because they would get a few $$$ back, and they will definitely need to update these devices at least every four years.

Give your kids a quiz on Monday - how long will it take each of them to find the iTunes app. I will bet you 5 YM dollars that it will not take them but 3 minutes to find it.

How to I get my iPad synced with iTunes. I don't have any music on the iPad2. Do you have music downloaded to your computer in iTunes, just not on your iPad? If so, you need to connect the USB from the iPad to your computer, open iTunes on your computer and it may auto sync or you might have to do it manually (which can be a little PITA). If you don't have any music in your iTunes account yet, then just open iTunes app in the iPad and shop away.

I would be careful about connecting your iPad to your home computer in order to sync the device. You could end up with personal photos, videos, or other information downloaded as well. My mother was issued an iPad by her principal, and was warned that this was a tool - not a toy.

I didn't connect the Ipad to the home computer. I bought something for $24.99 a year that takes all the music already uploaded on my computer and puts it in Apple's cloud so I can access it.
We weren't discouraged at all from putting personal apps on it. They want us to figure out ways to use it to help the kids learn. However, I don't use it to access Facebook or pictures, etc. However, I'm not afraid of my music. And sometimes I actually have things I teach in my Itunes account . . . like Macbeth on cd.

How many of those kids keep the same cell phone or ipod for four years without an upgrade? Even if their parents are footing the bill? In reality, selling the ipads for a song after four years is a nifty way to avoid the hazardous waste disposal costs on piles of obsolete electronics. Giving them away is politically unacceptable to some, and selling them for a nominal amount creates the impression that they have some intrinsic value.

I paid for my iPad so if I put a bunch of pictures on it, that's fine.
The college where I worked briefly issued laptops to the students. They could purchase them for $750 at the end of four years. All of the students I spoke to said why would I do that. I can buy a new laptop for that kind of money.
