On a scale from 1 to 10, how hard do you rank your struggles compared to others. Let's keep it in your country, in your time frame (not the everyone in all of world history.)
My life is pretty easy. Healthy, good parents, I had a lot of advantaged. I will rank my problems as a "2" - and they are only upgraded from a 1 for my difficult personality.

In general life, maybe a 2?? could be 1 - i'm very fortunate.
On here...I guess 9 or 10, depending on the day -- I'm always persecuted :-(

2, I guess. Which makes me more depressed because I have no reason not to be happy.

My husband and I were talking about this last night. I said something quite similiar. We also decided that because we have had it pretty easy, we aren't very sympathetic to others. We just don't get it. We think - well, we haven't really had to try that hard, and we are doing pretty good - so maybe just a little effort and your life wouldn't suck so much. But, in reality, they are likely dealing with a whole host of problems that we never had to deal with.

I'd say a 1. Life is easy when it's as boring as mine is.

Depends on the area of life we're talking about, health, money, social, family, School ect. Furthermore some times of your life are more challenging in certain areas than others. For example, I had some significant money shortages shortly after college and starting out on my own, but overall it hasn't been much.
But I'll do my best to break things down.
1. Family = 2 2. Money = 3 3. Social = 7 4. School = 4 5. Health = 3
Overall, I'd say 4 or so.

I'd have to come up with a scale first, and then I'll tell you. Things I'd rank as 10 would be being kidnapped thrown in the trunk of the car and your only possession is a rock. When your captors take your blinded-folded self out of the car they make you give up the rock. You don't know whether you will be killed or not.
1 - Rich to well off person with no major health issues
Hmmm, somewhere between 2 and 9, but definitely higher than 2.

hmmmmm. I'm gonna say a 6.
ETA: Which isn't to imply I'm sitting around wallowing in misery. There are plenty of ways my life is easy. But if I objectively look at some of the tougher events of my life and how those compare to what I'd consider average, I'd have to say I've maybe had more than the average amount of struggles or obstacles.

Something is very wrong that I read this and had a stronger reaction to "my rock!" than getting killed. (shakes fist at lousy rock thieves)

I seem to only have First World problems... so I'm tempted to say a 1, but I guess even 1st World problems are problems so I'll say currently a 4 (I have a lot of FWPs right now) but I suspect that in about 4 to 6 weeks as the problems resolve/go away I'll be at a 2.

Phoenix's scale is probably the only way I can answer this question 1. Family = 4 2. Money = Formerly 4-5, now a 2 3. Social life = 1 4. Relationship = 1 5. Health = 1 I have always been in good health and have a pretty high metabolism (through no action of my own), no birth defects or congenital problems other than poor eyesight, decently working brain. Got lucky there. Lucky to have good friends and a great husband. My home life as a kid was not ideal and some family members are still a source of stress. Nothing compared to the abuse/neglect many kids face, but probably higher than a 1 or 2. Same with money growing up - we weren't homeless and had lights/plumbing, but it was a stressful environment. So I'd say in the past my life was a 3 or 4 and is now probably a 1 (which as Swamp said, makes me wonder WTH I'm depressed).

I guess it's all about perspective for me.
There are some days that I rate my life as a 5-6; stress from being a full-time working single parent who doesn't get any help from the ex.
I've been trying to practice putting some positve affirmations/reminders about the good/great stuff in my life. That I am doing very well as a single parent despite not getting help, I have a healthy/smart/charismatic child who tells me/shows me love multiple times a day, a great paying job with awesome benefits, I have my health, my family and could be doing a lot worse than some of the people I see.
This usually pulls me out of my funk and brings me back to a 2

I'd say about a 5. I haven't had it either the easiest or the hardest. I wasn't born with the skill set to deal with it, nor taught by my family. They couldn't teach it, they didn't know themselves. I would say that bumped me up from a 3.
ETA - But with Archie, on a scale of awesomeness my life is about an 8 now. I need to travel more and have a bit more money for an 11.

.999999 I have some minor health issues. Nothing serious but I don't always feel great. Everything else is ridiculously great. But I'm pretty easy to please in the big scheme of things.
Later - I think you are going the wrong way. 1 is the best and 11 is worser than 10. ;D

Another way to put it.
Ways I've had it easy: Family is pretty low drama and responsible. I wasn't abused or neglected as a kid. We were comfortable growing up (if not rich). I went to a good school in a safe neghborhood. My parents paid for my college. I never had to go hungery or homeless.
Ways I"ve had it hard: I have bad eyes, was born with cateracts. Even with treatment my eyes are worse than most, but I still see well enough to function and drive. But I still occasionally face rude comments and misunderstandings over my vision. I also have Aspergers. In my particular case, I struggled a lot in school to learn, at least at first. It got easier in high school and harder again in college. It has also caused me to have considerable diffulcty with normal social interaction. And it often cuases misunderstandings and hateful comments (both in real life and here on PB). A comman effect is also clinical depression. I've had to deal with depression my whole life.
As a whole, things have gotten easier as I've gotten older.

Are we comparing ourselves to the rest of the world or the rest of the people in our own country? If the former - 0.5; if the latter - 1.5 or 2...maybe 3 if I'm feeling sorry for myself.

Some people have it difficult due to their own making. Others (like me) strive to keep difficulties out of their lives. Some of the former probably thrive on difficulty and embrace it (not that they'd admit it ...ETA: They enjoy the drama). Then others have difficult lives not through much, if any, fault of their own.

The OP set the peramters being in our own country in our current time. I'm sure all of ours would be significantly lower if we included other countries.

A friend runs a homeless shelter / program. I was asking her how it was going and for the first time in years, she cracked. She said "It is hard to keep doing this because so many of our families self-destruct right when they are about to turn the corner. It is like they want to fail. They just keep making choices that keep them in crappy situations." That was the first time she had really laid so much responsbility at the feet of her clients. But even with that, I feel lucky to have been born into a family that taught me how to make the right decisions, and how to steer clear of things that would land me in a shelter.

Overall = 6
