What can I say. At work dinner for ten one time, my manager had too much to drink. She 'outed' three of her employees (including herself) to the rest of the employees at the table who had no idea any of them were gay. Nor did she have the permission of the other two gay employees at the table to 'out' them. A bad night was had by all. I'm calling BS on no one else knowing that they were gay...normally SOMETHING gives them away...like the lesbian mullet

I can't imagine why anyone would care if someone is gay, unless you are currently sleeping with that person. A friend of mine in law school outed herself to us after a night of drinking. We already assumed she was so its not like the revelation was a big shocker. [It was in Tennessee. The South. Southern Baptist country-where Roman Catholics aren't considered Christian by many. F*gs will burn in hell territory. Where some think John Scopes should be dug up and hanged. Plus the dinner was in the early '90s.]

Our headquarters now even has a LGBT organization and offers medical benefits to domestic partners in states where same-sex marriage is not legal. They caught up with the times.

She was terminated shortly thereafter. Her bringing her partner just didn't sit well with the other executives. Again, that was in the late '80s/early '90s. Things have changed since then.

I had a business meeting in the early 90s in Johnson City. I was chastised at a business dinner with clients -- by the client-- for wearing a business suit. Bubba (his real name) was NOT happy that I wanted to keep it strictly business. Yup, I can imagine being gay in Tennessee back then was a career death sentence since being straight and faithful was.

Heck GRG-Tennessee tried to pass a law last year where a high school teacher couldn't mention the word gay in school. And I think it's Tennessee where a law was created were students were no longer allowed to hug each other on school property.
It only gets worse here over time.

I travel a lot, and have traveled for most of my kids' lives. I find that Skype helps - if you are going to have a laptop with you. Most hotels give you free internet these days - so if you have a camera at home ($20 at Best Buy if you don't) - you can hook up - even just a few minutes will help. You can see the baby, and your hubby, and they can see you.

It's only one night and one full day, but I will get back late so I'll miss DS for two tuck-ins. I had to travel when DS was young. At a year old, you'll do more missing than he will. I called everynight to say good night. Kids don't have concept of time, so before I left I would tell him how many "sleeps" I would be gone. When I talked with him at night (when he was preschool age) I would say- I'll be gone for two more sleeps. That was something he understood.
