It seems Eastman Kodak is denying rumors that it intends to file for Bankruptcy. I bought one of their digital cameras a few years ago - It came with it's own printer. When I loaded the software onto my computer my computer went crazy and acted like it had a virus. Once I removed the software my computer returned to normal. The camera died after only a year of use. It seems Eastman Kodak just couldn't adjust to the modern age. Their cameras suck and their film is outdated. This is one company that deserves to go under. I would never buy a Kodak product again after my last experience. Good Bye Kodak - It's survival of the fittest! blogs.wsj.com/marketbeat/2011/09/30/eastman-kodak-shares-lowest-since-depression/?mod=msn_money_ticker

Kodak did well for many decades but just couldn't adapt to the new environment. Today, an irrelevant company.
This isn't new. Think Polaroid ! High flying growth stock with the entire market for instant pictures. Tons of money made on this stock by investors. Great idea, great execution, great marketing, great profits. now a dead company.

Agree..... Bye Bye Eastman Kodak. Have a Kodak digital camera... and now it sits and gathers dust. May use it as an iconic paper weight. Oh, it can take pictures, but in no way is it remotely comparible with the capabilities of Canon, Nikon, or even the Fuji, for that matter. So time passes and marches on... either build a better mousetrap and keep it upgraded, or the company will just drop out of the competition and fade away..

Now they are denying any bankruptsy move.... just looking at their business options. If they restructure and stay alive, it will not be the same old Kodak..... but just what?

EK never planned for the future. But their executives got great salaries and bonuses!

Any one keep up with Xerox? I don't, but I wonder if they have a vision for the future.

Perhaps, as long as they can think beyond "copying" ;D

EK never planned for the future. But their executives got great salaries and bonuses! Yeah, kind of like the US auto manufacturers. Is EK 'too big to fail'? Will we be bailing out yet more bloated senior executive bad decision making machine? Part of a company's investment in themselves should be planning for the future, not unreasonably enriching individuals for short term results.

Kodak was entertaining the option of bankruptcy to ensure the sale (3 Bil) of patents. They run the risk of the sale to be deemed fraudulent. The overall plan for the company is to be only an intellectual property business.
The company has downsized to the point of not really a factor for the local economy.

For this to occur successfully they would first have to aquire some intellectuals - Something that seems to be missing (at least in the leadership tiers of the company)

Don't knock 'em for changing direction. This whole thread is knocking 'em for not changing direction.

I'm not knocking them for changing direction - I am knocking them for not having enough of a vision to have done it in the past. It's not like Eastman Kodak didn't have enough of a warning that the digital revolution was coming. How did they respond? By putting out inferior products and by not changing many years ago.
I don't want to see any company fail but this company has completely screwed themselves. IMO

Maybe they'll make a go of things in the IP business. Who knows.

They had digital technology in the seventies. Had to use it to save a Colorama display at Times Square. Rather than sending a film crew back on location, they remastered the shot. The company suffered from intense arrogance. If you did business with them, you had to adopt their stupid calender that George invented. The list is long of technology they invented only and fatefully did not develop. Cash fat...did not like to give Wall Street any information and only hired management from within until Fisher was hired as CEO.
