To the Mods here on SI, Would it be practical to have different sub boards under the SI board? Maybe one for something like Bonds, one for commodities one for China stocks and etf's etc. Sometimes reading the Start Investing boards different topics like stocks, eft's, bonds, commodities, penny stocks etc I start feeling like I am trying to swallow a baby grand piano whole. When I come to this board it is one really long list of every topic that could be associated with investing I guess I am a little ADD because it makes it hard for me even to figure out what I am trying to figure out what exact topic I am trying to learn. I was thinking of the main SI board. It would have the general topics. Stock pick of the week or month type games. And maybe general stock and mutual fund type questions. Then a few sub boards. One sub board could be Penny Stocks. One could be Bonds. One could be ETF's. One could be foreign investments like China. To me it would make the board very user friendly for newbies like me. People who have a particular type of investments. Like the ask a mechanic board on EE. They could post questions there and the experts could post there as well as act as wise elders for us kids. I know I haven't posted here in a while. Life was a little too stressful for me to do the work needed here. So my opinion isn't as important, I know. I just thought it was a good idea and maybe the mods here could think about it. I also understand that this board is still finding it's way with the help of very dedicated volunteers. So I hope I am not asking you to do much extra work for it. Thanks for your consideration. Sincerely 973

97 - Have you hidden everything you can (e.g., avatar, signatures, images)? That's helped me with the ADHD issues that I too have been having with proboards as a whole (not just this board). Do you think that the number of threads on each page is too many? The main problem I see with the sub-boards is that many items don't "fit" in different boxes. Like the games... those should be on the main board so they are easier to find. Like rovo's journal... that gets too many views to hide somewhere. The 5-15-50 thread... that is also too important to hide. Penny stocks, that's just one thread. What would we really end up with... a couple of threads perhaps in each sub-board? Would having an archive sub-board be more appropriate? We don't need to see the old voting polls or rovo's trading station (sorry about that). If we do that, who decides what gets archived or not. My two cents is just to leave it as-is.

Yes we could have sub-boards but I see little reason to do so. It has been about 3 weeks and we are still on the first page of topics. Most of the regulars on this board just add to their existing thread when it is appropriate.
Titles of the threads are more important IMO as they let others know the topic. There are only about 10 regular posters on this board and I have no problem finding what I'm looking for.
The weekly game, the polls, etc., will fall to the bottom of the list rather quickly once they are unpinned.

This! These really long lists make me feel like a 12 year old boy with ADD. When I go to EE I actually look at the mechanics board because it is quiet and less "noisy". I can easily find it and the info I want. The avatars actually don't bug me normally. (except Darks ) I treat them like I do my cell phone's picture ID's and just use them to see who posted instead of looking at the ID. Can I change the number of threads that appear on a page like on MSN? That would be very helpful. I guess on this board more than the others the topics seem more different even though they are all under the same general topic. To me investing in Chinese ETF's is radically different than investing in Bonds. But then again maybe it is just me!

97, SBS, I thought it was me. There was just something about these boards. Now that you verbalized it, I agree. I feel challenged at times. I don't think Sub Boards would solve the problem though. That would be sorta like those Russian Eggs - open one and there's just another and another, and another. I figure I will just go with this for a while and maybe in the future, beg Rovo to change if I cannot adjust.
