s, work more. finance.yahoo.com/news/drink-less-more-billionaire-tells-152654355.html" The lessons are the same," she writes. "You can't get rich without working hard, taking risks, investing and reinvesting your profits."
Of course, as Rinehart knows, you can also become very rich from inheriting and expanding your father's company.Gina Rinehart seems to court controversy - from her family lawsuits to her battles with Australian media.
Gina RinehartNow, the Australian mining heiress, worth $19 billion dollars and earlier this year thought to be the world's richest woman, has sparked another controversy in her latest column in Australian Resources and Investment magazine. (Yes, I am a registered reader online.) Rinehart rails against class warfare and says the non-rich should stop attacking the rich and go to work.
"There is no monopoly on becoming a millionaire," she writes. "If you're jealous of those with more money, don't just sit there and complain. Do something to make more money yourself - spend less time drinking, or smoking and socializing and more time working."If you check out her pic in the link there may be a reason she didn't add over-eating to her list of poor people sins. Here's an opportunity to support a rich person instead of bash poor ones. WW the YMers Do?

Yeah, but she left how it's a lot easier when you inherit daddy's billions first.

Well, she's partly right, though the part about drinking less and the like, that's a little crass.

Here's an opportunity to support a rich person instead of bash poor ones. WW the YMers Do? I thought YM was more about bashing all people than bashing poor people or rich people. I can say that she is right about me... I should drink less. It costs me a lot of money and I weigh more than I would like because of it. OTOH a glass of white wine is one of my favorite things. If I could increase my NW and decrease my weight by 5%, but I would have to stop drinking wine, I wouldn't do it.

Meh. I listen when people who started with nothing and now have something want to give me advice.
People that are born into rich families - I don't think they can give me much advice, other than that I chose my parents poorly.
I've known some of these people and a lot of them like to crow about what they did to get rich. They don't seem to 'get' that most people don't have they money to attend a private prep school, and ivy league school, and get launched into the world with a sweet trust fund.
Some of us ate ramen a lot and slept on a pile of clothes for a bed in our first apartments. We had public school educations and state college degrees and our daddy's names meant nothing in the towns where we lived. If you were born into wealth I don't think you can fathom that kind of life.

Keeping a business going and even growing is much much easier than starting one from ground up. ETA: I was also jealous that their minimum wage is roughly twice ours in the US. I didn't think Australia was necessarily all that expensive lifestylewise.

Oh so true. I grew up solidly middle-class but my parents came from less well-to-do backgrounds. Both worked very hard to make their lives middle-class. Both were thrifty and they had good social habits, being abstemonious drinkers and eaters, and ushering at a large theater to see many productions for free. We camped in a trailer that my father built. I have a lot more respect for what my father has to say ( my mother passed away eight years ago ) than what this rich b-person says. Everything is easy when the butler is standing there ready to hand you your next bon-bon....

Isn't she the same woman that was being sued by her kids because she was trying to keep them from their inheritance?

Whew! I'm so glad I'm not jealous!! I do agree when she said "If you're jealous of those with more money, don't just sit there and complain. Do something to make more money yourself - spend less time drinking, or smoking and socializing and more time working." Too many people spend, spend, spend while whining they can't afford to pay their bills. Then put down those that spend responsibly or call them "lucky". Some really are just unlucky (job loss or illness or death in the family, etc.) but many are just ignorant.
I remember reading where a poster said that they filed for bankruptcy and had their 2 motorcycles repo'd. That person thought it was just hilarious that they went out and bought another one. But you can bet they use coupons and save that 10 cents! There is just no hope for some people.
And all the money in the world won't help some people with how they act or look. Even when they have billions of dollars. And if she hates her kids so much to leave them nothing - why is that? Who raised them?

Did you miss the part where she inherited Billions? ;D Yeah, but plenty of people have squandered ineritances. It would be a fun task to try and lose $19 billion, of course, but let me give you an example. My first husband inerited money after his last surviving parent died. It was $300K in 1983. Part went for a fancy car and an expensive sound system and a lot went for his share of household expenses when he was unemployed for years. Fortunately, $100K was used as a down payment on our house. In 1997 we divorced. Each of us netted $100K after selling the house. (The Ex actually got a bigger share but had run up a lot of bills for crap he'd boiught over the years and those got paid.) I took my $100K and put it down on another house. I did buy myself a new computer to celebrate the divorce. I'm a geek. That's what geeks do. It would have been easy to buy a $30K car "because I deserve it" and take DS on an expensive cruise. My Ex never did get a job and went through all of his money. In 2003 I sold the house and pocketed a $200K profit. I needed only $50K to put down on a new place. The rest went into savings. Current DH and I passed the million mark in 2005. If your parents paid for your college education (mine did) you can choose to waste it by majoring in partying or changing your major every 6 months. While I understand that it's hard to identify with someone who's inherited billions, I agree with her point. It's only partly what you're given. The rest is what you do with it.

Maybe instead of lecturing the poor people (the 99% in this world) she should get herself to a personal trainer and a cosmetic surgeon. All that money in the world and she still looks like a troll.

Would her opinions and comments have been more acceptable if she were more attractive? If she was a knock out, then people would go on and on about her plastic surgery and it must be nice to be able to afford a live in personal trainer.. People feel warm inside when they can show off their use of fallacy on internet forums.

Man you are in a serious mood today. I was responding to why a guy would attempt to procreate with a woman who looks like her. To answer your other point. She didn't inherit a few hundred thousand, which could be easily spent, she inherited billions. The biggest reason her wealth has grown is because of the huge increa in prices for the minerals the mining company she inherited mines. This woman is her own worst enemy. Maybe she really isn't a horrible person but everything she says makes her do a really great impression of an asshat.

back hand her. It's really easy to rail against the poor when you inherited your money......... But....but...the Romneys said that all you have to do to get yourself through college is sell off some of your stock options. Mittens said if you want to start a business, just borrow money from your parents. Wow! I had NO IDEA I had access to stock options. I had NO IDEA my parents were rich. They hid it pretty well, what with my mother cleaning other peoples' toilets, and all.....

So, we aren't allowed to hold what Michelle Obama says in a speech against her, lest we be called racist and be told we are taking things out of context - but we are allowed to make fun of Ann Romney?
I'm just trying to get the rules down here. MO = do no wrong. AR = idiot. Got it.

Yes I had to wonder when his wife talked about using a door on sawhorses for their desk if they stashed the stock options in boxes under it, or did they slide them under the ironing board they used for a table?
Maybe they stored them in the stable next to the dressage horses.
