Help!
Our neighborhood is kind of freakish. We all hang out together - a lot. Last weekend, we had 3 parties. Some new people moved in, and because of timing and some other odd stuff, we haven't really reached out to them. Usually we reach out, grab them, tie them up, and force them to be our friends. But, we just haven't gotten there with these two.
Today I saw her (from a distance) walking to the car, and she is clearly pregnant. Can any of you think of a nice little pregnancy gift that would be small, but sweet that maybe we can give her as a way to break the ice?

Whew, I'm glad I don't live in your neighborhood!

Maybe one of those kits for foot and hand prints? They sell them for $10 at craft stores. I feel so bad - when we moved into our neighborhood we were greeted with cookies and wreaths. Most of the neighbors came over to introduce themselves. A new family moved in catty corner to us (with kids DS's age!) and I still haven't introduced myself. Since it's been 6 months I'm kind of embarrassed to.

Would you think less of someone who introduced themselves to you after you lived next to them for a while? No need to be embarrassed. We didn't get plugged in until we were in the 'hood for 4 years. But it was worth it to get to know them - even if I had seen their tailpipe for many years.

I need a brownie right now! I ate no breakfast and I am so hungry. We have a co-workers b-day luncheon today at 12:30 EST so I still have about an hour before I eat.

I used to bring baked good to each of my new neighbors. Right after my visit things always seemed to go downhill for them. One couple had a messy divorce, one had a fire, one packed up in the middle of the night and left (don't know what that was about).
I think I am bad mojo. Maybe it's better for the neighborhood if I keep my damn pies to myself.

Maybe you should just get pregnant. One of my neighbors was pregnant, so I made her some cookies (I think - maybe it was brownies, I can't remember.) And 24 hours later she said "Well, those are all gone, and I'm not sure anyone had any - except me."

Diapers and/or wipes are always a good choice. We've also gotten several really great board books since DS was born earlier this summer that we love, so that's another option. Or, a couple of outfits in 3-6 or 6-9 months (I'm guessing she'll get a lot of newborn/0-3 month size outfits).

And ditto the idea of brownies or cookies - I was starving all the time in my last tri!

Maybe I'll ask my immediate neighbors if we want to do a little basket - and we can do a picture frame, some baked goods, a parenting book and a pack of diapers or something. She might want to talk to some Moms in the hood. We know the best doctors, best hospitals and the best preschools in the area.

Make sure she is absopositively pregnant and not just fat. That would be a hard mis introduction to overcome.

LOL - I actually thought that. But she is stick skinny with a hard, tight belly. If she isn't pregnant, then she needs to get her tumor removed. I'll wait another month and make sure it gets exactly 4 weeks bigger.

OK, I know I am the uptight one, but with all the food Nazis I've been dealing with lately, I probably wouldn't bring home-made food to anyone I don't know. When we moved and btw I WAS pregnant, I would have loved to have someone tell me all about all the places around the area. And if you want to go with food, I would probably get a bunch of take-out menus and may be a GC or something. Our eating out budget went through the roof those first few months....

She's probably second tri-mester, or damn close. They have lived in the 'hood for a while - maybe 6 months - so they likely know all the places to eat.
I will take my chances. If I make a box of brownies and they don't eat them and throw them away, I will still get "nice points" and I will never know that they tossed them. I'm out the same amount of effort and money - regardless.

Just make sure she is pregnant first. I once asked a new neighbour when the baby was due to be told..."Im not pregnant I'm just fat"..... Could be a bit embarassing if you arrive with some booties and a pack of diapers....

Be sure to follow it up with a note saying you're just kidding. Then you can all laugh about it later while swilling bathtub sangria out on the lawn-couch.

That's like my nightmare. I'm still getting used to living in a place where the neighbors are so close I can't pee in my own yard. Having them show up and try to talk to us would probably push me over the edge.

Having them show up and try to talk to us would probably push me over the edge. You know that if you start peeing in your own yard, they might stop showing up. If that fails, just use the "spider monkey defense" and start throwing your own feces at them.

Actually, we had a long discussion about how great it is to pee in your own yard. So, now we all pee in each other's yards. I have some videos.

LOL! Alright, maybe you guys aren't so bad. I'd maybe hang with you once in a while as long as there was copious alcohol.

I am thinking of taking a potted yard plant to my new neighbors. I see the for sale sign is gone and a bunch of flowering plants in big pots look ready to be planted and a car is there sometimes so someone moved in. They seem to like plants and a big planter of hens and chicks or I could dig up a rhubarb to give them. No cost to me and I can invite them to share in the community flower garden, maybe they can weed it
