I have Dish network, and I think it's run by zombies.
Now I'll have to pay through Amazon to see episodes of Walking Dead..

I have Dish too but DD1 has told me I can watch at her house since she can get it On Demand with her Xfinity package and be able to get my Darrell fix. Other than this nonsense with channel dropping/changes, I've always liked Dish and since the channel nonsense seems to be happening with all providers, I'll stick with them for now.

My entire dept. was laid off in 2010 and it took all of us 8-9 months to find new jobs. I would never wish unemployment on anyone. My hope is the economy keeps getting better not for the country to be on the brink of destruction. My plan is to keep working, keep saving, and hopefully have a little fun along the way. Sitting around wishing for things to get worse just so people can "feel your pain" is pretty bad.

Did she, now? I don't remember her saying any such thing. Jarhead From another thread! Sarah, first I would like to apologize to you and vandals. I should not drink and post, it will not happen again. Weltz ------------ You should smoke and post instead, for a kinder, gentler Jarhead! Lol your right, except I never I inhaled. Do I think smoking is better for you than drinking? Absolutely! Do I think smoking is the answer to a fiscal crisis? Ummmm....no. That would be stupid. Speak for yourself and please don't put words in my mouth. Thank you.

Wuss. I'm jacking one of the armored hummers from the national guard storage area right down the road, and starting my own roving militia. If you can't beat em join em and all that. There are like 50 trucks down there. Some of those big troop carrier types, at least a dozen hummers, a few tanker type trucks. My first recruit will be my old supervisor who's got something like 100 rifles. We're good to go. First stop Cretinous' place.
Plan B would be to head down to the marina, steal some rich assholes boat, and head for South America.

Im just going to wait until he curls up in the fecal position then steal all his stuff. Fecal position? Curled up like a turd in the toilet bowl? Awesome. If we're reduced to living on what we can grow I'm totally screwed. I planted a veggie garden this year and everything I planted turned brown and died, then the weeds overpowered everything, grew six feet tall and started smack talking. I don't even go over to that part of the yard anymore, it's scary. I do have an awesome collection of birds coming into my birdfeeders, though, so I guess I will live off roasted warblers. And I'll see if you can eat weeds, if you boil them long enough. Until the zombies come, anyway. OMG LMAO!!! I was hoping somebody else saw that so I didn't get accused of taking this thread another way. Hilarious!!! Oh - we've got doves and pigeons at our feeders! We are set! Some of us actually put our fences inside our property lines so we don't have to deal with those issues.

Ok I'm lousy at enforcing discipline - you may leave the corner POM, but no more fence references - that situation has me depressed!

It's not smart to do that here. After a 3-5 year time frame your neighbor can claim that the property outside the fence is now his because you've given him exclusive use of it. At least in California. That's why we have the crazy laws about splitting the fence cost. If you put the fence inside your property line you're giving away the land on the outside of the fence, legally speaking. So a few years later your neighbors yard just got bigger, your fence is now sitting right on the property line again, and he owns half the fence that you built. It's nuts.

I've not read lately and had hoped you got it all worked out. But it's stories like what you are going through that had us do ours the way we did so I'm glad you all share your experiences with us. If I were your neighbor I'd share the costs with you! We paid for the entire fence and Ouch!

No progress on the fence. I did send photos to the son showing where its unattached at the top and bottom rails. Waiting until October since that is when he said he would reconsider. I did up the $$ being sent to one of my accounts by $200/month assuming it would be required to pay for the entire fence.

I hope the next downturn has 95% unemployment and it's rolling unemployment so everyone gets a taste. You sound awesome. Can we be friends in the zombie apocalypse?

When the zombie apocalypse comes I'm covered! My next door neighbor is a (legal!) immigrant from Israel. While there he was a special ops guy in the Israeli army [for those of you unfamiliar, you do NOT mess with those guys] . . . if zombies come for me I'm hiding behind him . . . :-)

"That might have been a stupid thing for me to say. I do wish those that think the unemployed and struggling deserve it for bad planning, would get a taste of being unemployed and struggling. If your neighbor or another poster here is struggling because they made poor choices in the past they are paying the consequences for it now, why add to that with the insulting and condescending 'you should have planned better" or "didn't you see that coming"? Why not help a guy go forward instead of taking joy in his failure?"
Unfortunately, there are people in this world who get more pleasure out of kicking a person when they are down as opposed to trying to help them get back up. I hope things get better for you.

"I'll probably just keep going to work, paying my bills, and buying stuff. Maybe keep my eye out for some nice investment property if prices really dip. That's about it."
Same here. The economy really won't affect me unless I'm laid off *shrugs*. Otherwise it's just business as usual.

What I think Cretinous is refering to isn't a depression but the collapse of civilization.
If we're talking the latter, I don't think any amount of preparation will really save you.
