I've definitely come to recognize context over the years, but I still have that gut level, "Grrrr!" Usually in a good natured, eye rolling sort of manner. I completely understand why people say it, it only continues to anger me if I see prayer without action. That came up on the other thread too. Anyway, how does your family (those of you who have religious backgrounds) treat you? Friends? Coworkers? Just curious

I just realized one of my entries here did not post! Maybe it will show up later.
But, to answer your most recent question: Most of my family doesn't know I am an atheist -- so, no difference there. For the older generation, it is just not worth it to me to create stress. For those my generation and younger (except my own kids) it hasn't come up.
Friends? Not all of them know, but I think I have an unstated understanding with most my religious friends, meaning "we just don't go there."
Coworkers? I never really came out as an atheist when I was still working, but did play "devil's advocate" in many conversations -- specifically challenging some of the comments about "non-beleivers." As career military, it was often uncomfortable to be non-religious, but for the most part I just ignored the religious aspects.
I guess you could say I have been non-evangelical in my personal non-belief. Many people who call me their friend, and even family probably do not know I am an atheist.
