It could be she didn't ask for the money for the children's cavities because the relationship between all the parties is so amicable.
My brother and his ex did the whole splitting up thing the way it should be done. Everything was done with their son in mind. Yes they had a whole custody court agreement but they made up their own rules and it worked wonderfully. My brother saw his son whenever he wanted and they worked together to make sure the arrangements worked. There never was any of this well it's your weekend or my weekend, they just worked it out. When he and his new wife went to watch son play spots they sat with the ex and her new husband.
My brother was also supposed to pay half of medical expenses but his ex would wave it off with oh well you paid for such and so.

I feel personally guilty if a kid gets a cavity... Maybe she didn't want you to think she was being a bad parent about sweets/brushing, etc,

Lol, I was feeling guilty about the cavities myself, so I can see that she would feel that way.
Everything is pretty amicable, as far as these things go. I could stand to be more friendly toward her. I'm not rude or anything. I'm just not that outgoing of a person, and it feels awkward to make small talk with her. I have been trying to work on that, but due to my general social awkwardness it hasn't been going too well.
