I really hope you get the job in CT, workpublic; especially, since that's where you want to be. I hear you about finding work when you're over fifty. Everyone I've known who was in that situation has been hard-pressed to find any sort of meaningful work. Most did as you are doing and worked temps hoping for permanent status. Some won the toss and some lost. I hope you can grab the brass ring. Thank you! KARMA FOR U! Have you worked with virtualization, storage, or Cisco UCS nope never had the chance. I've installed and configured VMware. that's it. Im in desktop support. do you think a 52 year old(or anyone) with no experience in the skillsets you listed will even get a look at? how about a 52 year old who gets certified in the skillsets but has no working experience? zip i don't know how it is where you are. but where I am, you go through headhunters to get work. They won't submit you without experience in the required skillsets. I have no contacts except headhunters. I'm on LinkedIn and have a few desktop connections. of course though being a one man IT shop during the 80s and 90s who self taught himself DGCobol(and everything else required to run the show) and manually did the Y2K fix proves that I can learn and do anything in IT(pretty much any field) but that and 50 cents will get me the Daily News ;-). do you have any contacts in the northern westchester/danbury CT area you could hook me up with? I work as a contractor in IT, but my company is actually making record profits and my boss is apathetic. Try and see if a company called "Unisys" is employing where your at. I am not sure what storage you are familiar with, when I was last their they contract for EMC, netapp, ipnokia, Dell. It is field work and the hours could get a little crazy, but it is work.

In have a few irons in the fire. desktop support wise.
i have no current storage experience. I have backed up servers and main frames. in my geographical area, you won't get considered for any skill set you don't already have.
why would a storage position be given to a desktop support guy?
just searched at the unisys site for new york
.NET Developer Job Albany, NY, US Aug 3, 2012 .Net Developer Job Albany, NY, US Aug 6, 2012 .Net Developer Job Albany, NY, US Aug 6, 2012 JAVA/JEE Developer Job Albany, NY, US Aug 11, 2012 Level 2 Technical Help Desk Agents - UTS Job Rochester, NY, US Aug 12, 2012 UTS Tech Support Rep 2 Job Rochester, NY, US Aug 7, 2012
besides being hundreds of miles away from me, i would not be considered for the first 4 jobs with my skill set.
the last two yes. but i'm not looking to relocate to rochester. there are similar jobs in my area, they are just all contract. I am confident at this point that I will be able to snag a 6 month or a year long desktop support contract in my area this time around. there have been a lot of them posted this year. besides the danbury ct temp to perm(the one I want bad) there are year long contracts(likely to be extended) right here in westchester and stamford. one is at westchester medical center. i've been approached by several head hunters about. but each time the rate is lower. that's the problem with multiple HHs vying for the same Purchase Order. the rate for the actual job doer(me) gets lower and lower as time goes by.
don't get me wrong. I appreciate all of the suggestions.
i've applied to storage jobs in the past and never got replies.
i throw as much mud against the wall as i can. unfortunately not much of it sticks.

"Why would anyone in their right mind look at this graph and decide to give the republicans another turn at bat."

how about a 52 year old who gets certified in the skillsets but has no working experience?
Last year I was 52 working just outside Boston with no certs and enough knowledge of VMware to be dangerous. I spent my 4 months of unemployment studying companies, technologies and applying for anything I could. I applied for a position with one company that was way below what I had been doing. I never heard anything from that company about that position but 3 months later heard from a recruited hire by them. He thought I was a perfect fit for a position they currently had open. I studied more and worked the interview process. I lucked out by meeting a hiring manager who I hit it off with. I got hire in for more than I was making at my previous job and have been there now for over 1.5 years. The point is, DON't GIVE UP.
I will grant you it started under Bush I will disagree, this disaster started under Clinton. After that neither Bush nor the congresses working with him did anything to prevent the problem and as a result credit default swaps brought our economy to it's knees. Just like congress didn't work with Bush to identify and resolve the growing problem, the current congress has done nothing to help Obama turn the corner on the economy and solidify the recovery. When I sit back an look at the situation and as myself which party is most likely to have the balls to regulate the financial industry, specifically the use of credit default swaps, I keep coming up with Obama and the dems.

It takes that plus a bit of common sense which brings me back to my original conclusion.
