Hi peeps. I do have a question. Why is it seemingly OK for coaches coaching school sports or other children's leagues to use profanity while coaching the kids? Are THEY not supposed to be models and representatives of the school? And, why is this OK for them to say, but if my kid said the same thing, they would get written up. I have made this point only to be told "that is just the way it is" as if this can't change. And, if they cannot tame their mouths, then they should be fired just like everyone else. What say you?

It's not OK. One of our minor hockey coaches was removed because his continued use of profanity.

Really? Wow. I can't imagine that even happening around here. And, i am not a "zero tolerance' kind of person. Of couse, in the heat of the moment in a big game, a coach might now and again let some words slip. Who doesn't. But, today, the coaches were screaming profanity during our first scrimmage that counts for nothing and you don't even keep score.

Agreed. Not okay. I'd start with the principal and work my way up as far as I had to go. No way am I putting up with "that's just the way it is".

He was warned several times after parents complained. Nobody in the league expects zero tolerance, but he was just over the top. They finally removed him when he told the refs to go fuck themselves and flipped them off.

It would be kind of fun to just take my camcorder, get in close and record the verbal trangressions. Then, i would have some proof. And, i don't dislike the coaches or think my son has never heard or said these words. Of course he has. And, the coaches are good , decent guys. But, i just think that is one area that has never been addressed and glossed over and time to understand that coaches are responsible to teach good sportsmanship as well.

And, if my pro leagues where adults play and it is a job and the coaches swear and toss things about as part of the pro sports spectacle, all fine and dandy. We can all choose to turn off the TV or whatever. But, you know what i mean.

Yes I do. I don't want my 6 year old to think its acceptable to rant at the refs and tell them to go fuck themselves when a call doesn't go the way you want it to.

Wow, that is not acceptable where I live shooby.
Teachers and coaches fall into the same category and are supposed to lead by example.

Read my posts above. It is not acceptable and a volunteer minor hockey coach was removed for that type of behavior.
