Yesterday Shooby said she could no longer post from google images, and we all told her to click through to the web page and then get the URL. I said that I had about 70% success doing it from the thumbnail. But, since then I have had 0% success. Maybe Google changed their protocol?
I can still post just fine if I click through and get the URL.

I haven't been able to do it using a thumbnail for quite a while now. Probably right around the time that those copyright laws went into effect, actually....

Something about protecting copyrighted images from being reposted or something like that. <-- REALLY well-informed. ETA: "Fair Use" pops into mind as the buzzwords...

I noticed this quite some time ago. Like you, thyme, I've been clicking through to the URL. Most of the time, that image is usable, but some aren't. That's probably because the webmaster has made it that way to protect the copyright, I guess.

I always go to the page it's hosted on, then right click and select either "properties" or "view image info", and get the url from there.
Also, there is a 120 character limit for image urls, so if it's too long it won't work. Either find the same pic hosted elsewhere, or upload it to photobucket and use the direct url from there. you may still need to rename it even so..

I always use preview so I know that I do have the image that I want.

I think that is just the image you chose. I'm not sure how you can tell the size before you post. But I do notice that some pictures I post are giant and some are small.

lone, if you hover over the pic, it will pop out and tell you how big the full size image is. Mine is 450 × 338, for instance (and for reference). Also, when you see it on the web page it's hosted on, there is a link on the right side of the page
Full-size image 1200 × 900 (1.9x larger), 221KB
if you click the link for full size image, then you will know immediately just how big it is. we do have image size limiting codes here though so it won't post full size .. have to click the pic to see it full size.

Not always. I clicked through on this picture, and this is the size it came through as - no adjustments.

Odd. I can mouse over the image on Google that interests me and it will give me the "more sizes" option. Moonbeam has given you the other ways to get this option, though, so all's good.

when you hover your mouse over the pic, it should enlarge a bit and then show this stuff...

I understand about the more sizes, but from that picture I can't get to the URL that I need. I must click further into the picture and then there are no size options. you're correct, Lone. but you can see that the example i posted above is huge. 1200x900. so you would probably want to click "more sizes" and find one that's smaller. then click through on THAT one to get the correct url.
