So at my new job they still have a fax machine.....they also have scanners....do people still fax?
if so, should I pull my beeper out of moth balls too?
(and I thought I was bad with only getting an iPhone a few weeks ago....)

We have some reports that Visa requires us to fax. It's ridiculous. Each quarter I have to remind myself how to use the fax machine.

We still fax quite a bit at work. guys from the field fax in their time sheets. But even so, some are starting to take pictures with their smart phone and email them in.

I was told I had to fax something to another business last week. I tried 10 times, I couldn't get it to work, so I scanned it in and emailed it to them. I said I would drop the papers by their office next week when I was in the area. She insisted I was faxing to her phone line, but the fax machine's error report said the fax line they had listed on the paperwork, and the email she sent me. So, I don't know if it was an error on my part or their's. She accepted the scan. I hate fax machines - I always have.

We still fax - but only when the other party does not have scanning technology or otherwise insists that transmission needs to be done only by fax. Mostly we scan and email documents.

Yes depending on the business people still fax. Very common in the Nursing and Rehab facility I work Per Diem hours at.

I hate to fax, but as others have noted, a lot of companies still insist on it. We don't have a fax machine, we just scan and use online faxing.

As far as document exchange at my employer goes, I'd say 70% is done via scanning/email, 10% by fax, and 20% by US mail or drop-off. I use the fax maybe once every 2 weeks.

We still deal heavily in faxes (annuities/mutual funds). Agents fax in their business, it goes directly into a workflow to be accessed by our people. Then tons of faxes back and forth between companies to initiate transfers.
We're doing lots of faxing without using a fax machine though. Hit "print" on your on-screen document and fax it that way.

We still fax. Its dumb - I wish they would upgrade our technology to accept scanned pictures instead (easier to read, quicker to receive, etc).

We have a scanner. It's cumbersome and you have to push like 19 buttons to save it and then 14 more clicks to retrieve it and attach it to an e-mail.
I use my fax. I hit one button and I'm done.

We don't send many outgoing faxes (I like the scanner), but our customers still like to fax us their orders. I like getting orders so we keep the fax around.

Yes, but not very often. The vast majority of time it's people faxing me and not the other way around. A couple of my scientists will only send me stuff in fax machines. Whenever I have a choice I scan a document and e-mail it, which is easier than trying to figure out the fax machine.
I only use it to send out when no other option is available and I need it there immediately. But I hate using it because it's hard to know if it went to the right person.
Receiving faxes also sucks, unless I know it's coming I have no idea to go and pick it up.

We have a pretty slick scanner on our copy machine. It only takes three button clicks and it scans and sends it to you as an e-mail attachment. Quick and easy.

We still fax from time to time. I work for a trade association and some of our members are older and prefer to use the fax machine. Even some of the younger members find it easier to just stick a sheet of paper on the fax machine as opposed to scanning it in and then having to attach to an email.
ETA: My biggest complaint with receiving faxes is that a lot of the times I can't read their name or the credit card number they are using to pay their membership dues and I have to end up calling them to get the info and that is if the phone number is readable.

Yes, our 'scanner stations' can send a fax. There's no actual fax machine here. You can scan a document if you don't have in a digital format (doc, txt, pdf, whatever else it takes) then you can send it via email or fax.
If I were to receive a fax it would show up in my email ---

My husband owns a copy shop and he still does quite a lot of faxing. He does his from the copy machine, to it is pretty easy, but you have to get over the fact that you no longer have to listen to that "fax sound". A lot of people on the road sending time sheets, some things to colleges. Some people buying meds from Canada. I had to fax some stuff for my kids college also.
When you send things by fax, you get a confirmation as a record that it was delivered (although not necessarily printed). When you email, you may or may not get a confirmation depening on the email system.

The joy of being with a big company is cool equipment. We have a huge copier, and you just hit scan, and there is a menu with everyone's email addresses on it, and then you just send through the thing you are scanning. Only 2 more buttons than a copy, and 11 less buttons than faxing.

We've got a very easy scan and e-mail function and I use that 99% of the time. The exception: our Medical Spending Account provider is set up to receive faxes only. Big pain. Apparently they now have an app that lets you scan and send receipts via smartphone but since my "smartphone" is the company Blackberry and I can't install apps or send photos anywhere it's useless for me.

Yes - many businesses still fax. DH knows how to scan but i don't. I would learn it if I needed to. When handling my mom's estate almost all companies wanted her death certificate and proof that I was the P.R. faxed to them. Very few actually wanted them mailed to them and maybe 1 or 2 asked to have them scanned and emailed.

Our scanner makes every page a different document. So when I need to send something with multiple pages, it is simpler to fax. We don't have the lastest and greatest, but we are giving all our teachers and the seniors Ipads. So we aren't technology-stupid. They just don't care that much about the fax machine/scanners. It's like the telephone system that also never gets an upgrade.

We fax. I've had month long battles trying to convert some clients to secured e-mail with PDF attachments for some of their reporting. Bleh.

Most of the guys in my office mostly scan/email. Myself and another "old guy" still fax. From what I know, our scanning equipment is not the best, so scanning is more of a chore. However, I know the day is coming very soon where I'll have to be weaned off the fax machine.

We have things that we are not allowed to scan because of liability issues but we are allowed to fax them so fax it is. The only alternative is it print them out and mail them parcel post. They are mostly oversize though so sometimes the fax has to go to the nearest Staples type of place. Is that worse than pushing 11 buttons?

Ewww..... That thermal paper was lousy. That alone was a big reason to upgrade! We have a newfangled copier that does it all these days. ;D
