...well, if they'd just watched the Bourne movie this past weekend, they'd see what the future of this is... ;D

Pretty sure this tech is way off.. but it will certainly be a fascinating conversation ala Gattaca!

No, because Gattaca dealt with the social ramifications of HAVING the technology that allowed for the enhancement.. granted, it went with the pre-birth screening, but since that's probably going to be where the tech starts, it seems like a good guide.

...hmm... I don't remember the Jude Law types being able to modify/enhance cellular performance to the other Jude Law types, a la limb regeneration... admittedly, it's been awhile since I last watched it... but the other movies definitely included those story lines... ;D

They couldn't, but I still believe that performance enhancing will start with dna manipulation pre-birth.. not with cellular reconstruction in an adult. Not to mention you'll have "have" vs "have-not issues in terms of who has access to it, giving the wealthy an even greater potential advantage over the non wealthy.

Nope.
Why should only the soldiers feast upon such ''comforts''? The entire thing has a 'Daily Mail' feel to it.

...well, if they'd just watched the Bourne movie this past weekend, they'd see what the future of this is... ;D Hehe, well, interesting you mention that -it occurred to me that a story like this could be discussed largely with reference to such films and not be exhausted for some time; always interesting to see what happens when the real state of technology catches up with the dreams and nightmares of science fiction writers. Whatever! Immortality would be awesome "It's not just about living forever, Jackie. The trick is living with yourself forever…" I read a book some time back - "Enhancing Evolution: The Ethical Case for Making Better People" (John Harris) - which put forth very compelling arguments for genetic engineering and it very nearly had me convinced that it was a good idea. The one thing he (rather conspicuously) didn't draw attention to, and the one nagging issue remaining at the back of my mind, was as you mentioned above -the 'haves' and the 'have nots'; the potential for class-related abuse of the technology. Edit: On science fiction: I was led to believe, by all those 80's sci-fi films, that we would have flying cars by now. Somewhat disgruntled that this is not the case.
