We're on the freaking milk run! Our stuff was picked up in Germany on June 25th. At least it looks like the boat finally arrived in Oakland on Friday. www.hapag-lloyd.com/en/schedules/vessel_tracing.htmlI'll double check to see how the link posted. The Ship's name is Hoecht Express (Highest Express in Dutch (Not!)). Container will go through customs this week and I hope to have our stuff delivered some time next week. Yea!

Uh-oh...what happened?
Our stuff was practically gift-wrapped going in, so short of falling off the boat I think it should be o.k. But never tempt the fates I say. Fingers are crossed!

1 bed went missing. 1 bed arrived broken. And lots of scratches and gouges.

The bed has been found, the other bed is still broken, and a butt load of gouges in our wood furniture.
We shipped it May 25th from Kansas and we just got it today.

I'm sorry Angel. 3 months is a long time. How was yours shipped? Our stuff is in a 40' sea container with a one time lock. Supposedly no one can open without the key. When we moved to Germany we had one small crack in a Tiffany style glass lamp shade (bought at Home Depot) and a little bit of white paint on a book case from the side of the container. Other than that no problems.

A work colleague shipped stuff from (back to?) Finland. He chuckled when telling me they'd left a roll of strapping tape on a box and it was still there in place when their container arrived. Guess they had gentle seas.

I don't now how ours was shipped. I just know that my stuff was in big wooden boxes that were sealed. I think the packers in Kansas just didn't do a very good job wrapping it. The whole top my my dresser is just gouged and scraped. I do have a big mirror that covers it, but it still is beat up. We won't make a claim on it...it is 15 years old. 4 more years and DH retires. I will buy new stuff then.

I've seen the wooden crates before when my Oceanside tenants moved in from Hawaii but didn't see their stuff come out.
I would file the claim. They should at least pay to refinish it.
You should have seen how the movers packed my sea container. Not only was there not an inch to spare, there wasn't enough room to pack our mattress (we wanted to get rid of it any way but couldn't figure out how to get it to the . They took care of that for us!).
When we moved to Germany, the sea container wasn't full. We didn't buy much while we were in Germany because the Euro was trading too high and we already had some nice antiques and no more space. So the extra volume was all about the extra packing.
Since the Euro is trading lower, maybe you'll get some good deals on funiture while you are in Italy!

The sea container arrived yesterday! They've unwrapped all the furniture; we'll start unpacking today. So far damage has been relatively minor but it's more than we've had before despite what I thought was one of the most thorough packing jobs. One item missing. Boy do we have a lot of stuff. And the storage shipment arrives from AZ tomorrow!

I bet you're glad to have your things around you again so you can finally shift from "park" to first gear! Do you feel like it's Christmas morning? Remember Angel's missing bed? It turned up in a mattress box so don't give up hope quite yet. Have fun unpacking and arranging and finally lounging on your own stuff again. Oh...and a belated welcome home

Holy crap we have a lot of stuff! The AZ delivery was 6000 lbs and 100 more items (boxes, furniture etc.). We need to do a garage sale! Or a moving back home sale.

A "we're finally moving all our stuff into one house and it won't fit" sale. I do understand how this happens, though, when you've been living outside the country. It's kind of like when DW and I got married. Two houses worth of furniture, two kitchens of pots and pans, etc., resulted in a pretty full basement. What I always thought was funny was that when people would come over to do work and the like, they'd offer to buy something. The canoe went to a guy who came to look at a used car. I guess he got transportation, even though he didn't buy the car. The plumber who installed the water softener bought one of the microwaves (we had three at the time). The real estate agent we interviewed in preparation for selling the house bought the second microwave and a window air conditioner.

Tskeeter, Those are some great stories! We really did luck out getting rid of our old CA King bed. I couldn't figure how I was going to take it to the in Germany because it was too big to tie to the car. But we lucked (?) out and it couldn't fit in the sea container so the movers who packed our stuff in Germany took it with them. They didn't take the box springs because they were already too deep in the container. But one of the guys who unpacked the sea container on the US end took the box springs for his nephew who was sleeping on a king size mattress on the floor. ;D I wish I could blame the move to Germany for our excess stuff but the truth is we've been collecting for a while. We've had something like 5 company paid moves so little incentive to shed. Add in a couple of deceased relatives and we've become the pack rats I vowed I wouldn't become. And the worst part? We have a second furnished home in vacation rental service and that single car garage has become our storage unit. I know, I know, first world problems...
