The misuse of a and an when preceding words that start with a vowel: Incorrect: Do you ever have a urge to scream? Correct: Did you have an enchillada for lunch?

There was one word used over at EE that was a classic:
satification

The one that kills me is when I get an email from my boss that says "your the best". Maybe true but can't you type "You are the best" or "you're the best". I guess I should be happy to get this email but I really want to hit the reply button!!!!
One time my employee that speaks Spanish as her first language corrected the signs that were in English with horrible grammar. UGHHHHH.

I feel like he didn't mean what he said.

If my boss sent me an email with a bunch of typo's, my guess would be that he did type it rather than his assistant!!!

So glad lose and loose made the list. I want to lose my lunch and let loose with a few well-place slaps to the head every time I see those two used incorrectly. I agree. Very annoying.

Could it be that some will even go so far as to learn when to use "that" and "who"? Here's a hint: There was a man WHO bit a dog THAT bit him first. There wasn't a man THAT bit a dog WHO bit him first.

advise/advice trips me up at times. I know the difference, just slopping typing at times and not catching it when I look back over the post before hitting send.

...the same for Choose and Chose
Another one is than/then.
Wrong: I'd rather be skiing then skating.

nooooooooooooooooooo... plurals do NOT get apostrophes people.. lol oh and another that constantly gets used incorrectly is to/too. "too" means also.. ok, here's a true story. i have a former lead that once sent out an email to the entire team, plus 2 management levels above him. he had intended to say that mistakes were making us look "incompetent". but instead, he typed "incontinent"! I replied back that perhaps some Depends were in order, and he didn't get it. Boy was he embarrassed when i told him what he'd sent out.. i enjoyed doing so too because that guy was a real prick.

LOL. I wonder if he ran spell check and since it found no errors, he just hit 'send'.

yep!! a grammar check wouldn't pick that up either, of course. problem is, he got too reliant on the spell check and didn't bother to proof-read in addition.
then again, i'm not sure he'd have caught it even so. he just isn't that bright.

I love the inner grammar nerds in y'alls! Wow, that's quite a tongue sticking out. Been gone for a couple of days and my whole world is thrown upside down...

Nothing inner about my being a grammar nerd...in my case, it's blatant.
One of my pet peeves is hearing people say things like "him and me" or "John took Mary and I to lunch", and what's worse is hearing the misuse of "I" or "me" in dialog in movies, TV programs, commercials, or to hear it from newscasters.

Oh please, I have a post graduate education and if it wasn't for spell check, I wouldn't be able to spell my own name. I have other talents. yeah, I don't get hung-up on spelling or grammar. The partner who used to be in-charge of our region is now second in comman of the firm...he couldn't spell his way out of a paper bag. He is in the low 7 figures now...If he doesn't have to know how to spell, neither do I

I'm more of a stickler on business correspondence for example. On a message board, posts are typed a lot quicker and they don't get the same level of review. That's not true for everyone I realize.
brakes/breaks are another I see get mixed up.

My secretary has an English degree so when I give her correspondence to type, it comes back with perfect grammar and spelling. One time she told me she fixed my "dangling modifier"...I don't even know what the F that is!!!LOL She is awesome and makes me look good

Lol @pom talking to people who aren't there ugg! the tongue sticking out shortcut doesn't work right... DS has gone to the State Spelling Bee twice now (the only times his school participated). His spelling is exceptional, mine, notsomuch... I'm pretty big on grammar though, but only when it really matters, like in a formal document, on places like this it doesn't bother me too much. I've found that if I buzz-post I can't type worth crap though.

WTH...now my colon p is coming out at IMHO instead of the tongue sticking out....well that's kind of funny to end each post with "in my humble opinion"
